Whether it be Christmas, a birthday, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day or any other occasion that warrants a gift, we’re here to help you find the perfect present for the wine lover on your list. Our giant gift guide for wine lovers covers everything from wine accessories, wine books, funny wine gifts, actual bottles of wine and more. Check out all our recommendations below. Cheers!
The Basics — Wine Accessories
The most basic of basics in our Ultimate Gift Guide For Wine Lovers is getting a bottle of wine open. Our favorite options are either an old school double hinged style opener or a super easy and super quick electronic opener like this one for around $30.
Speaking of opening a bottle, what if you could try a wine without popping the cork? That’s the idea behind the remarkable Coravin, which inserts a super thin needle through the cork to extract a glass of wine, leaving the rest of the bottle perfectly preserved. This one will set you back $299 but this year Coravin has also introduced a new, less expensive version for just $199.
On the subject of high-tech gifts, here’s one of the most important we can recommend and it’s probably something you’ve never even considered — a portable breathalyzer. We like the Backtrack Mobile ($99) which connects to your smartphone (see our review here) but if you’re looking for more of a stocking stuffer check out the stand-alone keychain version for just $29. (It even comes in multiple colors.)
Here’s another nice gift option for the friend that’s always on the go, the govino portable wine glasses made from unbreakable plastic. Way better than a Solo cup, these will have you drinking in style on picnics, boating, camping, at the beach, etc. Check out our review here.
One of the most vexing problems for sparkling wine lovers is what to do when you’d like a little bubbly but you just can’t finish off the bottle yourself. As we found in our review, the CapaBubbles sparkling wine re-sealer is indeed the answer.
Here’s a highly practical and cheap solution to a common problem, keeping track of which wine glass belongs to which person at your next get-together. Sure you can go the charms route, but that doesn’t work with stemless glasses. These washable markers work in all circumstances and costs less than $10!
If the wine lover on your list also happens to be a chocolate lover, then Brix Chocolate For Wine is the gift you should be giving. Specially designed to match different types of wine, this is one of our absolute favorite brands of chocolate (and that’s saying a lot!)
Why not liven up your next party by having a blind wine tasting? This ultra-affordable blind wine tasting kit ($11) from Urban Trend, gives you everything you need to put your skills to the test! Not for those who talk the talk but can’t walk the walk.
For The Reader — Wine Books
Jancis Robinson’s The Oxford Companion to Wine, now on the 4th Edition ($44), is THE definitive book for the wine lover in your life. With over 4,000 entries on every wine related topic imaginable, this book makes a fabulous gift.
Another classic and extremely informative book that won’t set you back quite as much is the 30th Anniversary Edition of Kevin Zraly’s Windows on the World Complete Wine Course. $20 on Amazon.
While those first two books cover all the basics and then some, one of my favorites is The Curious World of Wine: Facts, Legends, and Lore About the Drink We Love So Much by Richard Vine ($15). Full of interesting, funny and surprising stories about wine, it’s a fascinating read.
For The Traveler
While I adore wine travel, one of the more problems that always comes up is the best way to transport wine acquired during your trip. To that end we’ve got two fabulous and effective options for you.
The more high-tech approach, for when your wine absolutely must arrive fine, is the VinGarde Valise, available on Amazon for just $269:
Just For Fun Wine Gifts
Sometimes the best gift is the one that makes the recipient laugh. Even better is when it not only makes them laugh, but it can also be put to good use. Here are a few of our favorites along those lines.
