Ready for the party! Easy to drink and in a big bottle, we review the Helenental Kellerei #GVLTAT Grüner Veltliner.

Helenental Kellerei #GVLTAT Grüner Veltliner

100% Grüner Veltliner from Röschitz in Weinviertel, Niederösterreich, Austria. The wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel and has 5 g/L of residual sugar. It is also vegan friendly.

Sample submitted for review. The wine, which comes in a 1L bottle, has an SRP of $15 and is available for as low as $11-12, which works out to $9 or less per 750ml bottle. It is imported by Wein-Bauer.

From the winery:

TASTING NOTES: This grüner veltliner has fresh fruit flavors of apples, grapefruit and pears with spicy-peppery notes that make this variety so unique worldwide. Enjoy by itself or add sparkling water to make a Spritz!

FOOD PAIRINGS: Ideal with light meat, fish or a variety of start plates.

12.5% Alcohol

The 2023 Helenental Kellerei #GVLTAT Grüner Veltliner opens with a pleasing aroma of lime, pear, kiwi, a touch of peppery spice and some vegetal notes. It’s a nice start.

Tasting the wine reveals flavors similar to the nose with fresh and juicy fruit plus good acidity and a lively mouthfeel. This is quite easy and refreshing to drink and while it’s on the simple side, it offers a good representation of this under-appreciated (in the US anyway) variety.

The wine ends crisp and surprisingly long. This is a great wine for a hot weather party or picnic especially given the one liter bottle size.
