Today we have another wine from a favorite producer, Concha y Toro. Originally just a Chilean winery, Concha y Toro now produces wine in other countries as well, including Argentina. We’ve consistently been impressed with the quality to price ratio they offer in wines like:
- The Bulk Buy rated Concha y Toro Gran Reserva Serie Riberas Malbec 2011 – Smooth, Complex and Delicious.
- A perfect match for grilling season in the Casillero del Diablo Reserva Winemaker’s Red Blend 2011 – A Grilling Great.
- Another inexpensive Mendoza Malbec much like today’s wine: Concha y Toro Xplorador Malbec 2011 – Stock Up.
- A delicious Chardonnay from our Coastal Whites of Chile series: Concha Y Toro Marques De Casa Concha Chardonnay 2009 – Tour of Chile Part 2 (Coastal Whites).
The 2011 Concha y Toro Frontera Malbec begins with a very nice aroma of black cherry and stewed fruits plus a little smoke and coffee. The wine tastes simple, jammy and quite good. This super easy to drink Malbec is available widely in a big 1.5L bottle and it’s easy to see why you might want that size – with a smooth texture and soft tannins this is a great party wine. It ends slightly dry with nice length and features sweet berry notes tinged with dusty spice. Hard to beat for only $5!
