Another nice Aldi find for just $8, we review the 3 Rein Never Tame Red Blend.
A blend of undisclosed grapes from Columbia Valley, Washington State.
No other info is given on this private label brand from Aldi, although the name, label and location certainly call to mind the 14 Hands wines (and specifically the Hot To Trot Red Blend) from Ste. Michelle Wine Estates. Whether that’s just copying or a hint to the producer, I’m not sure.
The 3 Rein Red Blend is available exclusively at Aldi and sells for $7.99.
From the bottle:
A wild stallion, stunningly beautiful and spirited beyond measure, he embodied the Columbia Valley. Legend has it a horseman returned him to the wild – as after 3 broken reins – it was clear he was built to reign, not to be reined. Never Tame.
This fruity red blend leads with aromas of cherries and ripe fruit, followed by flavors of blackberry jam and subtle oak. Pair with tomato-based pasta dishes, red meat, or pizza. Best served at room temperature.

The 2020 3 Rein Never Tame Red Blend opens with a sweet and jammy, but pleasing, aroma of ripe berry fruit, some smoky bbq sauce and a little chocolate, vanilla and spice.
Tasting the medium-bodied wine reveals it to be smooth and a bit on the sweet side but well balanced and pretty tasty. It features similar flavors to the nose that all come together rather harmoniously in the mouth. I can see this being a very popular blend, especially at this price.
It ends dry, a bit grippy, long and rather savory with a little burst of spice at the end.
