Acquesi Brachetto – Delightfully Sweet

Syrupy sweet yet still delightfully crisp and refreshing, we review the Acquesi Brachetto sparkling red wine from Piedmont, Italy.

Acquesi Brachetto - Delightfully Sweet

We’re becoming big fans of red sparkling wines, an often overlooked version of the bubbly stuff. Today, we’re checking out a Brachetto d’Acqui wine from Piedmont, which is a bit similar to a sweet Lambrusco.

Brachetto gets its name from the grape it is produced from and this example is 100% Brachetto. The red sparkling wine comes from Piedmont, Italy. The example we are reviewing today has 123 g/L of residual sugar and is vegan friendly.

Sample submitted for review. The Acquesi Brachetto has an SRP of $17 and is available for as low as $10. It is imported by Mack & Schuhle Inc.

From the importer:

The vineyards are located on the hilly ridge that goes from Acqui terme to Nizza Monferrato passing through the amazing hills of Castel Rocchero, located at an altitude between 250 and 350 meters above sea level. A large part of the soils that give life to our Cuvée are characterized by light limestone marl while the minority part has a strong sandy component. The different microclimates affected by this selection of musts offer a complete photograph of Brachetto.

Acquesi Brachetto has an enticing deep-rose color with an elegant perlage. The bouquet consists of raspberry, cherry, and delicate rose petals.

In addition to the classic accompaniment of fruit cakes, it flourishes with the provocative idea of serving it with very spicy Indian dishes, aged cheeses and oily fish.

6.5% Alcohol

The Acquesi Brachetto opens with a pleasing aroma of strawberry syrup, sugar and a bit of a floral note.

Taking a sip reveals the wine to be very sweet but still crisp and refreshing, in part thanks to the fine bubbles. Full of fresh, syrupy fruit, this is a great one for the sweet wine lovers. It also goes great with cheese.

It ends with a crisp, lip-smacking finish. This is a fun one to drink.
