We review the Alavida Organic Kosher Malbec from Domaine Bousquet, available at some Costco locations.
100% fully organic (USDA certified) Malbec which means no sulfites were added during production. It comes from estate vineyards at 4,000 feet of altitude in Tupungato, Alto Gualtallary, Mendoza, Argentina.
This vegan friendly wine does not spend any time in oak and has just 1.5 g/L of residual sugar. It is also Kosher meaning all the winemaking is handled by a Rabbi while being overseen by Domaine Bousquet’s winemaking team.
Sample submitted for review. The Alavida Malbec has an SRP of $19 but we spotted it at Costco for $12.99. You can search for other retailers here. It is imported by Origins Organic.
From the bottle:
To Life! Alavida, a Spanish riff similar to the Hebrew toast L’Chaim! Is an invitation to people everywhere to come together and share in the simple joys of good food and wine. Argentina is a nation rich in diversity and our multi-cultural family at Domaine Bousquet has been making certified organic wines in Argentina since 1997, when we began planting vines in the upper reaches of Tupungato’s cool-climate Gualtallary area.
The purity of our fruit and high-altitude terroir shine through in this wine as no sulfites are added during winemaking, earning USDA Organic certification,
Alavida Malbec is vibrant and dry, with the black fruit and floral notes typical of a quality Malbec from our corner of the planet. Enjoy!
14.5% Alcohol
The 2022 Alavida Organic Kosher Malbec opens with loads of very dark fruit like blackberry and plum with a bit of a funky, meaty note that we seem to find on a lot of no sulfite added wines.
Tasting the wine reveals it to be smooth and similar to the nose with more dark fruit, which is a bit juicy in the mouth, and more meaty notes. It’s also a bit chewy and chalky. It does need some air to be at its best but this is a nice, dry, serious Malbec.
It ends dry with good length and was similar on day 2.
