Aldi Fuzion Single Vineyard Uco Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Zuccardi on the cheap thanks to Aldi. We review the 2022 Fuzion Single Vineyard Uco Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Bodega Santa Julia.

Cabernet Sauvignon from the winery’s Vista Flores estate in the Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina. 10% of the wine is aged in oak barrels.

As we mentioned above we were quite surprised to see on the back label that this wine is produced by the Zuccardi family of wines, in this case Bodega Santa Julia. We have enjoyed many quality wines from both labels in the past. Add in the fact that the front label also says that this one is from a single vineyard (albeit likely from a very large single vineyard) and we were excited to find it on the shelf at Aldi.

It is available exclusively at Aldi and sells for $9.99. It is imported by Mack & Schuhle Inc.

The grapes for this wine are sourced at our single vineyard “Vista Flores” estate in Uco Valley, planted at 1000 meters above sea level. The high altitude and unique terroir provides excellent conditions for producing wines that stand out for their concentration of aromas, flavors and silky finish.

At first sniff the 2022 Fuzion Single Vineyard Uco Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a bit underwhelming. There’s not much there, just a little dark fruit with touches of spice.

Luckily it is definitely better in the mouth with juicy dark fruit, a little spice, a bit of a meaty note and some tannic grip. There’s still not much depth but it is smooth and easy to drink and it gets a lot better with air.

It ends dry on the medium-long finish and was similar on day 2. A bit of a disappointment overall but nevertheless it is still good enough for the price.
