A surprisingly good example of the variety, we review the Specially Selected Alto Adige Pinot Grigio from Aldi.
Pinot Grigio from Alto Adige, Italy.
Another in the line of Specially Selected wines available exclusively at Aldi, this one sells for $9.99. At first blush that actually seems a bit pricey for grocery store Pinot Grigio, but it comes from the right spot – Alto Adige. It is imported by Prestige Beverage Group. Let’s check it out.
From the bottle:
This premium Pinot Grigio is sourced from the Alto Adige area of Italy in the Tre-Venezie growing region. The high elevation micro-climate produces the best Pinot Grigio grapes in Italy. This dry, medium-bodied Pinot Grigio displays floral aromas and flavors of pear and golden delicious apple with bright acidity and a touch of mineral on the finish. Enjoy with fish, chicken, pork, pasta with cream sauce, mild cheeses, or simply on its own. Best when served chilled.
12.5% Alcohol

The 2022 Aldi Specially Selected Alto Adige Pinot Grigio opens with quite a pleasing aroma of citrus, apple and pear plus touches of tropical fruit, a hint of white flowers and a nutty note. There are a lot of nice things going on here.
Taking a sip reveals the wine to be rich and flavorful with similar notes to the nose plus a touch of zestiness. Add in a smooth, very pleasing mouthfeel plus great structure and complexity and this is surprisingly nice for a $10 grocery store Pinot Grigio.
It ends dry, a bit tangy and surprisingly long on the very satisfying finish.
