Aldi Specially Selected Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore

We review the Specially Selected Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Extra Dry from Aldi.

Aldi Specially Selected Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore

Prosecco sparkling wine from the Conegliano Valdobbiadene region in Veneto, Italy.

Valdobbiadene is a DOCG level wine, which is the highest classification of Italian wines, just like the Asolo Prosecco region. We were quite excited to see it on Aldi shelves as we are huge fans of the $6.99 Kirkland Signature Asolo Prosecco. This one sells for $10.99 so it is quite a bit more. Let’s see how it measures up.

The wine is available exclusively at Aldi and is imported by Prestige Beverage Group.

From the bottle:

STYLE: Crisp and refreshing
FLAVORS: Green Apple
PAIR WITH: Fresh fruit, salads and mild cheeses

Glera grapes for this premium Prosecco Valdobbiadene are grown on the steep slopes of the renowned hills of the Valdobbiadene region in Italy, known for growing the highest quality grapes. This Italian sparkling wine displays floral aromas with bright fruit and green apple flavors with a crisp and refreshing finish. Pair with fresh fruit, salads, mild cheeses, as an aperitif, or simply on its own. Best when served chilled.

Extra Dry
11% Alcohol

The Specially Selected Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG opens with a pleasing aroma of apricot, citrus and green apple.

Tasting the wine reveals it to be crisp with lots of fine bubbles and similar flavors to the nose. It’s just slightly sweet but also has good acidity offsetting the sugar.

It ends crisp and with decent length on the refreshing finish. We’re not really finding this to be anything special but it’s still worth the relatively low price. That said, given the higher Taste Rating and a lower cost we would definitely seek out the Kirkland Signature bottling if you can.
