Brassfield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Review

Last Updated on July 25, 2025

Juicy, dense and delicious Cabernet with lots of aging potential, we review the Brassfield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from the high elevation vineyards of the High Valley AVA.

Brassfield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Review

100% Cabernet Sauvignon from estate vineyards (Monte Sereno, Rattlesnake Ridge, Block 14, Volcano Ridge, High Serenity Ranch and Ridgeline) at 1,800 feet of elevation and higher in the High Valley AVA of Lake County, California. The wine was aged in French and Hungarian oak for 18 months.

[UPDATE: After publishing this review as a Saturday Splurge (over $25) selection we recently happened upon it at Costco for just $19.99, so we’ve amended the rating below!]

The Brassfield Estate Cab has an SRP of $36 but can be found for $19.99 at Costco and as low as $26 other places.

From the winery:

This wine is immediately appealing, with aromatic waves of anise, mocha and brambly summer blackberries. The palate explodes with layered and elegant fruit, backed by structured, gripping tannins. Hints of cedar and cinnamon highlight the dark fruits, adding sophistication and a long, satisfying finish.

The 2021 Estate Cabernet is curated from fruit from several of our unique vineyard sites. These vineyards, scattered across our vibrant estate, are specially selected for the grapes they produce.

The 2021 Brassfield Estate Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a pleasing aroma full of dark fruit, licorice, anise, violets, spice and more. It’s a great, Cab-like start.

Taking a sip reveals the wine is still quite young but has very good structure. It definitely needs some time to open up but then reveals similar flavors to the nose with lots of dense tannins. This is juicy, delicious stuff.

It ends dry and grippy on the long finish and was just as good on day 2. An excellent splurge.
