Available for around $6 a bottle, we review the non-vintage Crane Lake Cabernet Sauvignon from California.
Cabernet Sauvignon from vineyards in California.
Sample submitted for review. The Crane Lake Cabernet Sauvignon has an SRP of around $9 but can be found for around $6.
Almost seems too good to be true, doesn’t it? A nice Cabernet for only $6. The non-vintage part throws up a bit of a red flag for us, to be honest, so going in we were worried this was going to be a sweet mess without any character. Luckily that’s not what we found. Let’s check it out.
From the winery:
Crane Lake Cabernet Sauvignon
Crane Lake wines are inspired by nature and the annual migration of the Sandhill Cranes to our California vineyards. Their return is a constant reminder of our stewardship of the land to sustainably grow quality grapes for our exceptional wines. When searching for wines that are created with the utmost respect for the land, look no further than Crane Lake.
Tasting Notes: This wine is rich in color and has notes of blackberry, black cherry, raspberry, and vanilla. Tannins are soft and layered for a complex finish.
Taste: Blackberry, Black Cherry, Pepper
Flavor Profile: Dry12.5% Alcohol
The non-vintage Crane Lake Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a decent enough aroma of ripe blackberry, black cherry and a little bit of an artificial vanilla note.
The wine tastes smooth and a bit juicy but it doesn’t have much depth or complexity. Having said that, it is still quite easy to drink. It’s mostly dry with just a touch of sweetness. For the price, it works!
It ends dry and a bit short but it held up just fine on day 2. This one squeaks by thanks to the very low price tag.
