There’s an awful lot of goods things going on here for just $5.99! We review the Trader Joe’s Doris & Leopold Grüner Veltliner Daham.
Gruner Veltliner from Sutter winery in Austria whose owners are named Doris and Leopold.
This wine is available for just $5.99 exclusively at Trader Joe’s. It is imported by Plume Ridge.
From the bottle:
Doris & Leopold’s family has been cultivating wine since 1671. Their great passion for wine is shown with this Grüner Veltliner. “Daham” means “at home” – in other words, from our home, our production, our origin, our tradition, our family.
12.5% Alcohol
350+ years is a lot of experience! Let’s see if it pays off in this very inexpensive example of the variety.
The 2023 Doris & Leopold Grüner Veltliner “Daham” opens with a bit shy but attractive aroma of lemon, green apple, a bit of a mineral note and touches of honeysuckle and other floral notes.
Tasting the wine reveals it to be round and much more flavorful in the mouth where it is full of rich, tangy fruit and all the same touches as the nose. It’s a bit restrained on the acidity but it has enough to make everything work and still manages to have a nice lively mouthfeel.
It ends crisp, clean and with good length on lip-smacking finish of lingering tart fruit and a bit of sea salt minerality. There’s an awful lot of goods things going on here for just $5.99!
