• The highly refreshing 2023 Horse & Plow Pinot Gris from the historic Block House Vineyard in Yountville, thought to be one of the oldest vineyards in Napa Valley. The certified organic grapes were whole cluster pressed and then fermented and aged in neutral French oak for 6 months. Just 9 barrels (225 cases) were produced. The wine is packed with flavor but not residual sugar (RS), having just 1 g/L. You will receive one bottle in today’s 3-pack.
• The 2023 Horse & Plow Sauvignon Blanc from the certified organic and biodynamic hillside Cassata Vineyard in Sonoma. The wine was fermented and aged in neutral French oak for 6 months and the result is a crisp, dry, rich and layered wine. Wine Spectator scores it at 91 points and we agree. Just 280 cases were produced. You will receive one bottle in today’s 3-pack.
• The 2023 Horse & Plow Draft Horse White also from the certified organic from the historic Block House Vineyard in Yountville, Napa. This Alsatian-style blend consists of 58% Pinot Gris, 37% Pinot Blanc and 5% Riesling. Each variety is fermented separately in a mix of neutral French oak and stainless steel. Dry (just 1 g/L of residual sugar) yet rich, juicy and balanced, this is uber-delicious! Just 12 barrels (300 cases) were produced. You will receive one bottle in today’s 3-pack.

Horse & Plow Winery utilizes organic farming, small lot fermentations and traditional techniques to produce balanced, food friendly and site-specific wines. Organic vineyards throughout the North Coast of California, including Sonoma, Napa & Mendocino Counties, produce wines with greater complexity and sense of place, while caring for worker health and the environment. The wines are made naturally with no synthetic nutrients or additives, no GMO’s, are vegan and contain low sulfites. Low intervention winemaking further conveys a sense of time and place in every handcrafted bottle.

This Pinot Gris comes from the Block House Vineyard, located in Yountville in the Napa Valley. It was hand-picked, whole cluster pressed, fermented in neutral French Oak barrels, then aged for 6 months’ sur-lee.

Aromatic, floral nose with juicy stone fruit and lush texture on the palate, crisp acidity to balance.

And now on to our review:

The 2023 Horse & Plow Pinot Gris begins with a very attractive and inviting aroma of green apple, a little peach and citrus plus plenty of floral notes and just a touch of a lemon cream.

The first thing you notice when tasting is the wonderful, smooth, almost creamy and layered texture just like the other wines. It also features rich, juicy fruit similar to the nose, great balance and good acidity. This is highly refreshing and again I love that is so flavorful with no sugar.

It ends dry, crisp, quite long and very satisfying on the tart finish. This is an absolute pleasure to drink. I love it!

From the winery:

The Cassata Vineyard, located in the rolling hills of Sonoma Valley, is well suited for growing expressive Sauvignon Blanc. Its warm days, cool nights, hillside aspect, and biodynamic farming practices produce grapes full of flavor and balance. After hand-harvesting, the clusters are gently crushed then pressed. The crushing breaks the skins to allow for more spice and depth of flavor in the wine. The juice is briefly cold settled then transferred into neutral French Oak barrels to ferment and age for 6-months, sur-lee. This lees contact in barrel adds richness to balance the bright fruit and acidity, resulting in a complex Sauvignon Blanc with depth and character.

Tasting Notes: Distinctive and elegant, with transparent and focused flavors of lemon curd, orange blossom and pomelo set on a light and crisp frame. Delicate details of fresh ginger and lemon verbena linger on the finish.

And now on to our review:

The 2023 Horse & Plow Sauvignon Blanc begins with lovely aromas of tropical fruit, lots of honeydew melon, some wild herbs and even a bit of a grassy note. It’s a very nice start.

The wine tastes crisp and rich with similar flavors to the nose and great depth. Very nicely put together with plenty of acidity and wonderful layers, this is very pleasing to drink.

It ends crisp, dry, rich and amazingly long and layered. This is a fantastic Sauvignon Blanc.

The 2023 Horse & Plow Draft Horse White opens with a very inviting aroma of pear, tropical fruit, melon, flowers and some sea salt minerality. It’s a great start.

The wine tastes smooth and has a bit of a creamy texture with lots of rich, juicy fruit. Balanced, layered and delicious with similar flavors to the nose, this is a wonderfully refreshing white blend. It features good complexity but is still quite easy to drink. I especially love that it is so flavorful without having any sugar.

It ends dry, crisp, long and very refreshing. I love it. This is uber-delicious.
