And now, on to the wines!

Up first, let’s check out Peterson 3V. Just 175 cases of this beautiful blend of Vermentino, Vernaccia and Verdelho (the 3Vs) were produced. This wine has quite a pedigree of high scores the last few years, going as high as 96 points.

We gave the 2021 we are offering here a Perfect 10, 94+ point rating. Normally retailing for $28, here’s how owner and winemaker Fred Peterson explains how it came to be:

I have had an appreciation for great mountain grown white wines since 1979. That was the year I went to work at Mount Eden Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains and first tried the Chardonnay from the mountain estate vineyard. The spiciness, structure and aromatic intensity produced by the porous soil and ideal sun exposure is not attainable from the valley vineyards. Unfortunately, given the value of these sites for red wines, not much white wine comes from mountain vineyards in California.

A few years ago, I developed a couple of additional acres of plantable land next to one of the ponds on my Bradford Mountain property. Having grown fond of Mediterranean white wines, I decided to plant an acre of this land to Vermentino, Verdelho and Vernaccia. The grapes in the 3V blend are exclusively from this site.

This co-fermented blend of 50% Vermentino, 25% Vernaccia and 25% Verdelho comes from the winery’s estate Bradford Mountain Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County. It is aged for 8 months in 16% new French oak barrels, 34% new Acacia wood barrels and 50% 3-5-year-old neutral Acacia wood barrels.

2021 Peterson Winery 3V Bradford Mountain Vineyard White Blend "The Egret"

From the winery:

Tasting Notes: The nose fills with a lovely fusion of lime and tangerine zest mingled with springtime floral aromas. Refreshing from the first sip to the finish where the flavors linger. Bright acidity fills the mouth and is balanced with a creamy essence appearing mid-palate. A citrus dance party offers layers of tangelo, Key lime, Lisbon lemon and Oro Blanco grapefruit tamed by the rich mouthfeel. As the wine opens, hints of minerality appear to add dimension to this crisp beauty.

The perfect pairing option for a creamy lemon caper sauce over ricotta-stuffed ravioli, or grilled swordfish kebabs with citrus herb salsa.

2021 Peterson Winery 3V Bradford Mountain Vineyard White Blend Back Label

The 2021 Peterson Winery 3V Bradford Mountain Vineyard White Blend “The Egret” opens with a very pleasing, very complex aroma of meyer lemon, a little pear, tropical fruit, some wet rock minerality and even a touch of petrol. Wow, what a start!

Tasting the wine reveals it to be smooth with lots of tart, rich fruit. Juicy and highly refreshing, there’s a ton to discover here as you sip away including lovely layers of lemon cream, zesty lime, tropical fruit, wet rock, salty minerality, wild herbs and more. It’s also fascinating to see how it evolves as it warms up a bit and reveals even more facets. Unlike a lot of white wines, it is just as good at room temp as it is cold.

It ends dry and tremendously long with a juicy, lip-smacking finish. This is fantastic and it would be amazing paired with and used to make risotto!

Up next in the INSIDER DEAL All-Stars White Intro Pack 2.0 we have the 2020 Miner Viognier from the Steinbeck Vineyard in Paso Robles, which normally retails for $28.

If you already love this traditionally Northern Rhone grape then you are definitely going to want to jump on this deal, as this example from Paso Robles embodies the best of the variety. And if you haven’t explored Viognier yet, then this is also the perfect place to start!

Just what makes the Miner Viognier we are offering here today so good? We’ll let the winemaker explain:

I would like to say that our Miner Viognier is extremely varietally correct for a domestic expression.

It has been known to be used for blind tastings for different Somm tests over the years to represent a classic domestic Viognier. It really holds onto those traditional “stone fruit and white flower” qualities that Viognier is known to possess. It is super refreshing, but also perfectly dry.

The Steinbeck Vineyard that we are working with in Paso Robles has extremely chalky soil, so it has this great minerality and a super clean finish. One thing that I think sets it apart is that it doesn’t have that cloying/Vaseline mouth feel that some Viognier Producers tend towards, because we do not use any oak whatsoever. The 100% stainless steel fermentation on this wine makes the finish on ours much brighter and cleaner and it doesn’t come off too perfumey with its aromatics.

We have had many Producers in Condrieu compare it to their own wine’s flavor profile, so we are super proud of this wine.

Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator agree, giving this wine 91 and 90 points respectively. We liked it even a bit more than that giving it a Taste Rating of 9 (91-93 points).

2020 Miner Paso Robles Viognier

From the winery:

Aromatically complex with citrus and honeysuckle notes on the nose and a plush feel on the palate, our Viognier consistently displays a fine balance of natural acidity and intense concentration.

This quintessential food wine was whole cluster pressed and stainless steel fermented to allow the vibrant, tropical and stone fruit characteristics of this varietal to shine. 2,688 cases produced.

2020 Miner Paso Robles Viognier Back Label

The 2020 Miner Paso Robles Viognier opens with quite an engaging and aromatic bouquet just as you would expect with this variety. Full of honeysuckle, melon, lemongrass, a little pineapple, a little pear and a bit of lemon cream, there is lots to discover as you swirl and sniff.

Tasting the wine reveals a soft, smooth, round and almost creamy but still vibrant texture with a little minerality underneath. Very fresh and easy to drink, the wine features similar flavors to the nose that all combine quite harmoniously in the mouth. Great depth and concentration lead to lots of well developed flavors in this dry wine.

It ends dry, long, tangy and delicious. This is highly satisfying!

The third selection in the INSIDER DEAL All-Stars White Intro Pack 2.0 is the 2022 Meadowcroft Russian River Valley French Colombard from the Cameron Vineyard in Russian River Valley. Fermented in 90% stainless steel and 10% Acacia barrel, just 200 cases were produced. This rich, smooth, silky, lip-smacking wine normally retails for $32.

2022 Meadowcroft Russian River Valley French Colombard

From the winery:

French Colombard is a white French grape variety that is the offspring of Gouasi blanc and Chenin Blanc. In France, French Colombard is among the permitted white grape varieties in Bordeaux. Thriving in the drier climates of California, French Colombard is a refreshing easy drinking white wine. The cool temperatures of the Russian River Valley provide this wine with lively acidity and lift.

This rare gem varietal with bright acidity and delicate aromatics of tropical fruit and citrus blossoms, this naturally acidic wine offers a refined complexity that makes it superbly food-friendly. We added a used single barrel lot to add a hint of richness and spice. This is a wine lover’s wine – elegant, pair-worthy, and complex.

This refreshing wine will complement lively ceviche or creamy seafood risotto. The acidity in the wine is also a great match for spicy food and garden veggies.

2022 Meadowcroft Russian River Valley French Colombard Back Label

The 2022 Meadowcroft Russian River Valley French Colombard opens with very pleasing notes of orange blossom, lemon, honeysuckle, melon, pear and more. It’s quite enticing with loads of varied fruit and floral aromas.

The wine tastes rich with a smooth and silky mouthfeel. It features similar flavors to the nose with some tart, tropical fruit and lime in the mouth as well. It’s so refreshing to see a grape variety you don’t find much in California and this is an excellent example!

It ends with a dry, long, lip-smacking finish. We love it!

And finally we have the 2020 Wrath Fermata Chardonnay. This estate grown mix of chardonnay clones (96, Wente, 17, Kistler and primarily Mt. Eden) comes from the San Saba Vineyard which lies in a nook just below the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA.

Here’s how the winery explains the name:

“Fermata” means halted in Italian and this wine is so named because we halt the secondary fermentation at its halfway point. This gives the wine richness but also preserves its acidity and energy.

Malolactic fermentation (the secondary fermentation noted above) is what gives Chardonnay its buttery notes (not the oak aging). By stopping the fermentation halfway, the wine is allowed to get aspects of both the buttery and non-buttery styles of Chardonnay. It also aged 10 months in French oak with 20% new barrels. The wine typically retails for $35.

2020 Wrath Fermata Chardonnay

From the winery:

With its rich, layered personality, this all-estate-grown chardonnay reflects Monterey’s longer growing season. Grape clusters have approximately 2 months longer on the vine than northern growing areas like Napa/Sonoma which results in flavors of vanilla and pineapple that are enhanced with toast and caramel from being aged in French oak. Because fermentation is halted at the halfway point, acidity is retained and gives this rich wine beautiful energy and balance. The finish displays lingering creme brulee, vanilla, and lemon that pull you back in for another taste.

2020 Wrath Fermata Chardonnay Back Label

The 2020 Wrath Fermata Chardonnay opens with pleasing aromas of rich fruit, pear, apricot, crème brulee, and some buttery notes.

The wine tastes rich and smooth with similar flavors to the nose, but the fruit is more tart and tends to the tropical side of things in the mouth. It also has a nice spicy streak. There’s more butter and crème brulee too along with some butterscotch notes. It’s very tasty!

It ends dry and long with tart acidity and a bit of toasty oak under the continuing butterscotch notes. Delicious.

And there you have it! A few other notes about this offer:

Besides the fact that we’ve got 4 different wines from 4 different wineries in today’s deal, one of the other big differences versus our normal deals is that this is not a flash sale format. This means this offer does not expire and can be purchased as long as inventory is available, but that inventory is limited so we don’t expect this to last long.

Over the years we’ve gotten tons of requests to start a wine club and while there are certainly good aspects to that, we’ve never been very comfortable with the commitment it locks people into. This offer is the next in what we call our “Reverse Wine Club” offers – pre-packaged collections of multiple wines for you to take advantage of whenever (and as often) as you want, without any commitment.

We only want you to order the wines that YOU want to drink, so if an offer doesn’t appeal to you, you’re not stuck with it like a normal wine club. There’s also no worry about getting a great initial group of wines and then the quality falling off once you’re committed because, well, you’re never committed!

In order for as many people as possible to take part, we’ve also expanded the ship states for this offer to just about every state we can possibly ship to (including KY) – which means some of you will be able to try the wines from these wineries for the very first time.

In the event that our inventory of one of these wines runs out or we need to switch vintages, this post will be updated with all the pertinent info.

Cheers!

– Jon

Here’s what people are saying about our Insider Deals:

I have been buying your Insider Deals for about 3 years now and we have enjoyed every one of them. They are wines that we never would have found on our own…

the wine is, in a single word, superb! as have been all other wines offered and purchased since I first learnt about you…

love them all so far…Glad we ran across you. Too bad we can not order them all.

Also your prices are pretty amazing.

Hey Jon! You do great work. I’ve bought a bunch of the Insider Deals and probably 80% of the wine I drink comes from them. Great values!

Jon, this is a wonderful wine all around. You have become our go-to person for wonderful wines and wine values. Please keep up the excellent job that you’re doing! Regards, a very satisfied customer.

I opened up our first bottle last weekend and was blown away.

Wow!! Just got my shipment. It is absolutely tremendous.

Hi Jon, Best thing I ever did is buy wine thru you…not been disappointed with any of them! Thank you SO MUCH!

Would you happen to be offering this one again anytime soon? I regret not buying more. This was exceptional!

I am seriously considering having the Insider Deals as my primary go-to. Why did I not do this sooner? Thank you

The only thing I have ever been disappointed in with an Insider Deal is that I didn’t purchase more.

I love this wine I bought from you!!!! Thanks for doing what do do!!!

This an absolutely amazing wine, Jon…You’ve outdone yourself!

Thanks Jon. We already drank all 6 of the first order so we were ecstatic to see you offering it again. My wife and I both love it.

You are a man after my own heart. I have always looked for the best and least expensive wine and you just made it easier. Cheers!

Hi Jon, well, I did something people have warned about – bought 6 bottles and should have bought 12!

Have had nothing but great bottles since I started ordering your recommendations. Thanks so much!

We’ve gotten in on three of the deals and have been VERY happy with the value. I originally was going to do a wine club thing but the insider deal appeals to me much more.

The shipping on the Insider Deals is another great part of the deal. We recently paid $27 to a winery in California to ship 6 bottles (same packaging as the insider deals)….yikes!

Just got my 6 bottles and having my first glass. WHY, WHY didn’t I buy a case??!!

I really missed the boat by only getting four bottles of this offer last month. Should have bought least at a case.

My wife and I have really enjoyed getting to know new wines (and better than we used to buy!) Thanks for what you do and providing this service!

Jon – you have to stop offering all of these amazing deals. My self discipline is fading fast!!

I recently took advantage of your offer. So glad I did, and now sorry I did not buy more (like all those quotes on your website!)

The wine is outstanding. I am so glad I bought a case.

I only drink Reverse Wine Snob wine, it actually doesn’t make sense to buy from a store. You don’t get anything interesting, unique, and full of value otherwise.

Jon, I should have bought more! Delicious!!

I am a Certified Specialist of Wine. I love your deals. You pick great wines!! Kudos to you for getting us great deals!

Wish I would have ordered more!! It was great. Looking back, I wish I didn’t open it at our annual pool party. It’s gone. **Sob**

Hi Jon, just had to let you know that I love this wine!!!! Thanks for doing what you do.

I have purchased many times over the last several months and loved the wines!

Seriously amazing deal!!! I love a bold red, and Reverse Wine Snob delivered!!! Perfect for a rainy night!!

AMAZING!! Damn, I should have bought a CASE!!

WOW. Just… wow. Absolutely delicious. If I knew it was going to be this good, I would have bought a case… or two. This was dead-center in the sweet spot of what I like. Thank you!!

I have loved all my RWS deals, can’t wait to get this one.

I know that you don’t need to have ‘customers’ email you every time they like a wine that you have suggested/rated, and I have enjoyed many of your recommendations. But this Tannat was spectacular! Wow! That was amazing!

I finally opened a bottle of this and it did not disappoint. Delicious!!!

Thanks for a great service! We’ve been loving your emails and wine deals!

This insider deal is a great wine!!! So glad I got it!!

My Insider Deal arrived just in time for my celebration tonight and it’s absolutely delicious! Cheers!

Wish I had doubled my order!

I’ve gotten quite a few of these and loved them all — keep them coming!

Wow – this wine is amazing!!! Glad I have two more bottles of it!!

Bought a case wish I had purchased 2-3 cases. Fantastic buy for the price.

This Insider Deal was the best ever. This wine is amazing!!! Strongly recommend.
