Before we get to that, here’s a bit more about Bruce for those that are not familiar:

Bruce Patch cut his teeth in the music industry — having once met the Beatles and helped to discover the famous 80s band, The Cars, in his native Boston. Once on the West Coast, Bruce turned his energies to several small labels of his own focused on classic R&B and Doo Wop artists and contemporary South Pacific music. He met his partner, artist Andrea Cleall, at a donut shop on the outskirts of Topanga Canyon, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Bruce and Andrea moved to the Russian River Valley in the late 1990s, and Bruce transitioned his sales and marketing background into a successful distribution business representing small independent wineries in Sonoma County. This would lead to a passion for and knowledge of winemaking that would inspire the creation of his own wine — Wine Guerrilla. Over the course of a decade, he built the brand and won accolades for his line-up of stellar single vineyard zinfandels.

Today, Bruce brings this history and experience to his most promising venture yet. Bruce Patch Wines sources the best grapes from throughout Sonoma County, including many vineyards like Clopton, Harris-Kratka and Carreras Ranch with whom Bruce has long relationships and a history of producing acclaimed wines. In addition to his trademark lush, full zinfandels, Bruce is also producing red blends and exquisite expressions of unique grapes like primitivo and malbec.

Summer 2025 Shipping Options – We have both a Summer Shipping option (with heat protection) and a Summer Hold option. Our priority over the summer is to get your wine to you safely should you choose to have it shipped! Here are the details on both options:

Summer Ship (+$8) – Includes heat protection (styrofoam), freeze packs (when necessary), an upgrade to UPS 2-day shipping to minimize transit time when your order ships, and packages will only ship Monday through Wednesday to avoid them sitting somewhere hot over a weekend. Because we’re only shipping at the beginning of the week, these orders may take a bit more time to ship after the conclusion of the offer (likely 5-12 days rather than our normal 5-10). The 4th of July holiday may also add an extra day.

These orders have an additional cost of $8 built into the product price for this Heat Protection Package. It is NOT possible (nor would it be advisable!) to purchase a deal with summer shipping without also including the Heat Protection Package.

Summer Hold (No Extra Charge) – Buy your wine now and have your shipment held (at no extra charge) for delivery in October! While we take every precaution we can with our Summer Shipping protocol, we also know that many of you travel or live in very hot areas where you don’t want to risk it (or you simply detest styrofoam).

Please note this is not a “ship-at-will” program, all your summer hold orders will ship (in cardboard/no styrofoam) at a date of our choosing in mid-October once temperatures have cooled down. From the winery:

This Zin is a blend of three different Alexander Valley vineyards. The 50 year-old Giovanatto old vine vineyard and the DenBeste Vineyard supplied the Zinfandel and we sourced the Petite Sirah from the Reynoso Vineyard. All three vineyards are in the northern end of the valley near Cloverdale. It’s about 87% Zin and 13% Petite Sirah.

Tasting notes: Exceptional length on the finish with a gorgeous nose of red fruits, citrus, baking spices and anise.

And now on to our review:

The 2023 Bruce Patch Alexander Valley Zinfandel opens with a lovely, balanced aroma of baking spice and red and black cherry plus some brambly fruit, cranberry, pomegranate, licorice, anise, forest floor and more. It’s a fantastic start!

The wine tastes juicy and delicious with all the same flavors as the nose, combined quite harmoniously in the mouth. This balanced, structured wine also features good acidity and great depth with lots of layers to explore and enjoy.

It ends dry and very smooth and savory on the very long and lingering finish. It was just as good on day 2. This is another excellent Zin from Bruce Patch, let’s go!
