This 100% Zinfandel from the Harris Kratka Vineyard was aged in French and American oak and only 150 cases were produced. As usual with Zins from Bruce, it is absolutely delicious. It is also the last chance for a Bruce Patch wine from this prestigious vineyard as the original owners have retired and the new proprietors are keeping all this beautiful fruit to themselves.

The 17-acre Harris Kratka Vineyard sits at the southern end of the warm Alexander Valley, bordering the Chalk Hill Appellation. Marshall Harris purchased the vineyard in 1992 and grows Zinfandel, Carignane, and Petite Sirah, supplying grapes to Rosenblum, Pezzi King, DeLormier, and many other prestigious wineries in Sonoma County and Napa Valley. Marshall decided to retire after the 2020 harvest, so he leased the vineyard to another Sonoma County winery that now gets all the fruit. Thus, the 2020 vintage, our 12th consecutive Harris Kratka Zin, was our last from this esteemed vineyard.

And now on to our review:
The 2020 Bruce Patch Harris Kratka Zinfandel opens with a very attractive aroma of black cherry, lots of baking spice, black pepper and licorice with a minty, woodsy, earthy note. It’s a great start.
Taking a sip reveals an absolutely delicious wine and a great example of Zinfandel. It features similar flavors to the nose wrapped up in a smooth, plush mouthfeel with great balance. Big, rich and very flavorful, this is not for the faint of heart! And it gets even better as it has more air, I love it.
It ends with a dry, extremely long, slightly chewy, juicy, mouthwatering and savory finish. This one just lasts and lasts. And it was just as good on day 2.
