This wine is complex and well-integrated, offering spicy notes, elegance, power, and structure. It features flavors of coffee, cacao, sage, dark chocolate, and ripe fruit, creating an impressive taste experience.
Vintage Notes: In 2021, we experienced mild spring weather and early blooms, followed by a heatwave from May to July. Despite the drought, our sheep helped retain soil moisture, resulting in an early harvest from August 12th to October 20th, producing small but highly concentrated berries. This vintage promises exceptional depth and intensity.
Inspiration: Clay Shannon began his career as a vineyard manager, farming wine regions of California. Now owner and visionary leader of Shannon Family of Wines, his passion is simple…. And now on to our review:
The 2021 Clay Shannon Mutton Red Blend opens with a very pleasing aroma of ripe red and black fruit plus spice and lots of other touches like chocolate, vanilla, cedar, hints of mint, balsa wood, forest floor and more. It’s a great start but take your time as there is a lot to discover with all these different varieties!
Taking a sip reveals a ripe, rich, tasty, crowd-pleasing red blend. All these varieties work very well together and most of the aspects of the nose also make an appearance in the mouth in a surprisingly easy to drink and cohesive way. This is a fun one!
It ends dry and quite long and was just as good on day 2. Yummy.
