Our Story: After 30 years of winemaking, Dolum Estates was born to create premium California red wines. Each unique and elegant – classic and unmistakable. All the fruit for Dolum Estates wine is taken from small sub-districts throughout select areas of the Napa Valley and Sonoma County. This meticulous selection process produces exceptional fruit that is surrounded by some of the areas most renowned producers.

The Winemaker: Winemaker Chad Alexander’s winemaking vision is of extreme focus on every detail-from the proper soil, to his proprietary planting structure that creates “total vine balance”. His exacting, almost extreme, winemaking philosophy allows the grapes to be in the perfect condition to create wines that continue to rival the best in the world.

Growing Season: A cold, wet winter and cool spring delayed budbreak, then a mild, steady summer delivered one of Napa/Sonoma’s longest growing seasons in years—highly even ripening, extended hang time, and above-average yields with excellent purity and balance. Harvest began around Labor Day for whites, with Cabernet rolling late September into October and most picks finishing by mid-November; Sonoma saw similarly cool, steady conditions (many sites hovering ~72–75°F) and a notable Brix “plateau” before a clean, unrushed finish. The result: vibrant acidity, finely tuned tannins, and exceptional quality across the board.

Winemaking: Dolum Estates exists to craft premium California reds that are classic, elegant, and unmistakably place-driven. For 2023, we continued sourcing from small sub-districts across select Napa Valley and Sonoma sites, leaning into the vintage’s long hang times to capture aromatic lift, refined structure, and concentrated flavor from small, well-aerated clusters. Precision picking and gentle extraction aimed to preserve freshness, polish tannins, and let site speak—bottles framed by energy, clarity, and enduring balance.

This blend is a harmonious fusion of the rich, full-bodied characteristics of Napa’s Cabernet, combined with the vibrant, fruity notes of Sonoma’s. The winemaking process involves careful selection, meticulous vinification, and aging in both new and used oak barrels to achieve a balance of power and elegance. The result is a Cabernet Sauvignon blend that captures the essence of both regions. This blend is a testament to the commitment to excellence and the ability to create wines that are both distinctive and memorable.

Tasting Notes: Dolum Estates California Cabernet Sauvignon offers a rich, inviting bouquet of black cherry, cedar, and a hint of oak, setting the stage for a deep, immersive experience. The palate is full-bodied and robust, with black cherry flavors that are ripe and sweet, balanced by cedar notes that add a touch of bitterness and astringency.

Its structure is solid, with well-integrated tannins that provide a sense of firmness and longevity. The finish is long and satisfying, with lingering notes of dark berries and spice, offering a gentle tug that is both invigorating and comforting.

94 Points Decanter: A full-throttle, blackberry-driven red, laden with chalky minerality and layered with robust tannins. Violet scents mingle with fig and plum fruit in a medium- to full-bodied expression that hits all the right chords, delivering a pleasing one-two punch to the senses. This vintage is another grand slam.

The 2023 Dolum Estates California Cabernet Sauvignon begins with a highly attractive aroma of black cherry, cola, cedar, a little vanilla and licorice. It’s classic Cab all the way!

Tasting the wine reveals it to be smooth and rich with great depth and balance. It features similar flavors to the nose with juicy fruit and some grippy tannins. It’s easy to drink but also layered and complex. It’s still a bit oaky in its youth but wow this is delicious.

It ends dry and very long and was just as good on day 2. Everything just works in this fantastic example of Cabernet Sauvignon. A great wine to stock up on at our amazing price!
