There are no outside scores on the 2020 vintage we are offering today, but other recent vintages of this wine have scores as high as 96-points. We give it a perfect 10 Taste Rating (94+ points).
The wine comes from the estate Conner Lee, Solaksen and Scarline vineyards and as we mentioned above just a mere 198 cases were produced. It also has a hefty (although justifiable) SRP of $50.

Summer Ship (+$8) – Includes heat protection (styrofoam), freeze packs (when necessary), an upgrade to UPS 2-day shipping to minimize transit time when your order ships, and packages will only ship Monday through Wednesday to avoid them sitting somewhere hot over a weekend. Because we’re only shipping at the beginning of the week, these orders may take a bit more time to ship after the conclusion of the offer (likely 5-12 days rather than our normal 5-10).
These orders have an additional cost of $8 built into the product price for this Heat Protection Package. It is NOT possible (nor would it be advisable!) to purchase a deal with summer shipping without also including the Heat Protection Package.
Summer Hold (No Extra Charge) – Buy your wine now and have your shipment held (at no extra charge) for delivery in October! While we take every precaution we can with our Summer Shipping protocol, we also know that many of you travel or live in very hot areas where you don’t want to risk it (or you simply detest styrofoam).
Please note this is not a “ship-at-will” program, all your summer hold orders will ship (in cardboard/no styrofoam) at a date of our choosing in mid-October once temperatures have cooled down. Please read this post for important info to determine if the Summer Hold program is right for you. Whatever shipping location option you choose at checkout (ship to home or ship to UPS Store) will apply in October.

2020 Gard Lawrence Estate Merlot
THE WINE: Plum, pomegranate, mint, cocoa, red licorice, vanilla and coriander. Swirling brings ripe blackberry, dry tobacco, and wood, with hints of leather and roses. This medium bodied wine shows a bright and playful mid-palate with plenty of underlying structure and acidity. The evolution of red and black fruits, rhubarb, and baked cherries give way to earth, and a touch of vanilla and oak spice on the finish. Enjoy now or for the next 10 years.
THE VINEYARD: Gård Vintners wines are 100% estate grown sustainably at Lawrence Vineyards, featuring 14 distinct vineyard sites. With elevations that range 870 feet to 1,675 feet and primarily south-facing slopes, Lawrence Vineyards provide a great framework for grape production, while the diversity of each of the locations delivers a high level of complexity to Gård wines. Lawrence Vineyards is certified sustainable.

And now on to our review:
The 2020 Gard Lawrence Estate Merlot opens with a very pleasing aroma of black cherry, plum, dried herbs, licorice, a little spice, and touches of vanilla and cedar. It’s a fabulous start especially once it has a bit of time to breathe.
Tasting the wine reveals good balance and structure with nice firm tannins throughout. Featuring similar flavors to the nose, you’ll find plenty of juicy fruit wrapped up in a smooth, round mouthfeel along with all those other touches from the nose.
It ends dry, very long and a bit grippy and it was even better on day 2. The wine is excellent now, but also still tastes a bit young to me which means there is probably even more development to come. Don’t be afraid to stash a few of these in your cellar – if you can resist them now.
With only 198 cases made, this won’t last long so get it while you can!
