Syrah really thrives in our estate vineyard and has arguably the most consistency year in and year out of all our varieties. This is a deep dense wine both in aromatics and color. Aromatically this wine opens up with fresh black raspberry, blackberry, cocoa and cedar then leads into a long, lush finish. This wine is a beautiful expression of our vineyard. Enjoy now but will benefit from aging for years to come.
VINTAGE: The 2022 vintage was one to remember. The year started off with a very wet and cold winter which continued on into a cool and wet spring as well, including a very uncommon snow event in April. These below average temperatures caused an initial delay in the grapes’ ripening and continued on until July when temperatures returned to normal. Harvest was pushed back a bit but fall brought us beautiful weather that lasted into November which allowed the grapes to fully develop. This led to wines with great balance, flavors and finesse.

And now on to our review:
The 2022 McKinley Springs Syrah begins with a very attractive aroma of violets and dark fruit plus touches of spice and a meaty note. It’s a great start, full of Syrah character.
Tasting the wine reveals it to be smooth with a soft mouthfeel and similar flavors to the nose with dark, juicy fruit in the mouth. Nicely structured and balanced, it also has pleasing spicy notes throughout. This is a very nice example of Syrah!
It ends dry and long with some lasting cola and dark fruit and was just as good on day 2.
