VINTAGE: This proprietary red blend is crafted with 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Zinfandel, 18% Syrah, 8% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, and 2% Petite Sirah.

TASTING NOTES: With a captivating dark red hue, this full-bodied red wine dazzles the senses the moment it hits the glass. On the nose, the fresh aromas of wild berries are interlaced with nuances of fresh lavender, dark chocolate truffle, baking spices, and cigar box. As the profile expands on the palate, the generous flavors of ripe blackberry, blueberry, dark cherry and fresh currants are layered with hints of cocoa, cassis, allspice, and wild sage. The plush and velvety texture, bright acidity, fine tannins, and firm structure make this a beautiful wine to enjoy now, or age in your cellar. Pairs well with blue cheese, wild mushroom risotto, slow-roasted pork with creamy herb sauce, garlic-crusted rack of lamb, and grilled steaks with chimichurri sauce.

And now on to our review:

The 2019 Muscardini Fortuna opens with a very enticing bouquet full of rich, succulent dark berry fruit along with well-integrated baking spice, some lovely aromatic floral notes and touches of vanilla. The aromas become particularly savory and deep after it has some time to breathe.

Tasting the wine reveals it to be smooth and silky, complex, well structured and with great balance, depth and acidity. The flavors are similar to the nose with all those same touches and then some. It is at its best after a few hours of air so give it time to breathe.

It ends dry, a bit chalky and grippy on the very long finish and was similar on day 2. Truly an excellent blend, this is a really delicious, serious wine.

VINEYARD: Cassata Vineyards is located in beautiful Glen Ellen, California in the Sonoma Valley. This area is known for its outstanding growing soils and climate. The vineyard was re-established along the gentle rolling hills. In the center of the property, a pond has been incorporated to act as a beautiful oasis for local wildlife. The pond also provides a much-needed water resource. The entire property is managed bio dynamically so that future generations can enjoy a pure and simple refuge in this isolated valley.

VINTAGE: 83% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17% Merlot.

TASTING NOTES: This magnificent release is crafted with fruit grown at Cassata Vineyards in Sonoma Valley. The wine opens with lofty scents of ripe red berries, cured meats, dried herbs, nutmeg, leather, and cigar box. In the glass, these aromas are complemented with deep flavors of dark cherry, huckleberry, cassis, black plums, fresh thyme, lavender and baking spices. On the palate, these full-bodied flavors are further enhanced with vibrant acidity, supple tannins, and an elegant dry finish.

PAIRINGS: Pairs well with richer cuisine including blue cheeses, grilled pork chops, beef bourguignon, eggplant parmesan, and dry aged ribeye with black peppercorn sauce.

And now on to our review:

The 2019 Muscardini Cassata Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a very pleasing aroma of black cherry, baking spice, plenty of cedar, leather and a little sweet tobacco. It’s a fabulous start portending the good things coming.

Taking a sip reveals a smooth mouthfeel with all those same flavors combining very nicely. This is a very tasty example of Cabernet right out of the bottle but just wait, as this wine was improving all the way through day 3 when I finished the bottle. On first pop and pour I had this at a 9 Taste Rating, but by day 2 it was up to a 10.

This is just a baby at this point so give it plenty of time to breathe (like all day) if you drink it now, or stash it for 5 years or so and be greatly rewarded, your choice! It would also be fascinating to buy several and pop one open every couple of years to track the evolution.

It ends dry, long, grippy and juicy an the lasting finish.
