• 2 bottles of the juicy, deep and tasty 2021 Home Ranch Vineyard Sangiovese. The wine spends 15 months in neutral American oak and only 300 cases were produced. We give it a Taste Rating of 9 (91-93 points).
• 2 bottles of the incredibly deep, dark, dense and chewy 2022 Pedroncelli Estate Vineyards Petite Sirah from the Bushnell and Home Ranch vineyards. Aged 16 months in American oak (30% new), only 590 cases were produced. We give it a Taste Rating of 9 (91-93 points).

Summer Ship (+$8) – Includes heat protection (styrofoam), freeze packs (when necessary), an upgrade to UPS 2-day shipping to minimize transit time when your order ships, and packages will only ship Monday through Wednesday to avoid them sitting somewhere hot over a weekend. Because we’re only shipping at the beginning of the week, these orders may take a bit more time to ship after the conclusion of the offer (likely 5-12 days rather than our normal 5-10). The 4th of July holiday may also add an extra day.

These orders have an additional cost of $8 built into the product price for this Heat Protection Package. It is NOT possible (nor would it be advisable!) to purchase a deal with summer shipping without also including the Heat Protection Package.

Summer Hold (No Extra Charge) – Buy your wine now and have your shipment held (at no extra charge) for delivery in October! While we take every precaution we can with our Summer Shipping protocol, we also know that many of you travel or live in very hot areas where you don’t want to risk it (or you simply detest styrofoam).

Let’s take a look at the 2021 Home Ranch Vineyard Sangiovese first, you will receive two bottles in today’s 6-pack.

From the winery:

VINEYARD SOURCES: This variety is known as the pillar grape of Chianti. In honor of our heritage we planted this classic Italian grape 30 years ago. Grown on our Home Ranch Vineyard, Sangiovese has thrived, planted on the hillsides so reminiscent of Italian vineyards. In the last few vintages, the maturity of the vines as well as the quality of the fruit from these hilltop sections is at their peak.

WINEMAKING: The vintage of 2021 began with low amounts of rain followed by a warm summer. Drought conditions sped up maturity as well as concentrated the flavors and color. The warm harvest was early and the grapes were harvested in the first week of September. The results show a rich concentrated wine with intense varietal flavors and mild acids.

The three blocks were crushed together creating a site-blend and transferred to stainless steel tanks where the juice was first cold soaked for 24 hours and then fermented for 7 days. The cap was pumped over periodically to enhance the color, flavor, and intensity of the wine. The wine was aged in neutral American oak barrels for 15 months and developed additional smoothness and complexity through the time in barrel.

TASTING NOTES: Medium bodied with aromas of red cherry, and violets. Layers of red berry, plum notes and soft tannins frame the wine with bright acidity. The finish is light with a touch of spice, making this a great food wine.

And now on to our review:

The 2021 Pedroncelli Home Ranch Vineyard Sangiovese opens with a pleasing aroma of black cherry, plum and a little leather and licorice plus a bit of a dried herbal and floral note. It’s a great start!

The wine tastes delicious right from the first pop and pour. Featuring similar notes to the nose, this is nicely balanced, juicy and filled with deep flavors. Easy to drink, this is an excellent example of Sangiovese.

It ends dry, long and a bit grippy. This is really tasty and it was even slightly better on day 2.

Next let’s take a look at the 2022 Estate Petite Sirah, you will receive two bottles in today’s 6-pack.

From the winery:

This richly flavored grape, long known for its intense characteristics, has been grown alongside Zinfandel in Dry Creek Valley for over 100 years. Petite Sirah has been planted on our Home Ranch Vineyard since the early 1900s. The Bushnell Vineyard has grown this grape for nearly 90 years and has been a source of fruit since the 1940s.

THE VINTAGE: The vintage of 2022 was influenced by low amounts of rain and was followed by a warm growing season which sped up maturity while concentrating flavors and color. The grapes for this wine were harvested over the second week of September preserving the varietal flavors, aromatics, and natural acidity.

WINEMAKER TASTING NOTES: Full flavored, deep purple and full-bodied, this Petite Sirah is very aromatic with dark berries, and warm cooking spices. On the palate find blueberry, mocha, and black pepper. Sturdily structured with firm tannins and a long full finish with toasty oak and white pepper notes. It has the potential to age well over 10 additional years or more.

APPELLATION: Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County
COMPOSITION: 95% Petite Sirah, 4% Zinfandel, 1% Merlot
ESTATE VINEYARD SOURCES: 75% Bushnell Vineyard and 25% Home Ranch Vineyard

WINEMAKING: The fruit was crushed into a small capacity stainless steel tank fermenter with daily pump-overs of the juice allowing a substantial increase in extraction of color, tannins and flavor.

And now on to our review:

Wow, this pours incredibly deep and dark and almost thick in the glass. It’s definitely Petite Sirah!

The 2022 Pedroncelli Estate Vineyards Petite Sirah opens with a big aroma full of dark berry fruit, lots of baking spice and licorice plus leather, black pepper, vanilla, chocolate and more. It’s not subtle, yet it retains a nice sense of balance. It’s exactly what you want with this variety.

Taking a sip reveals a big and dense yet quite smooth and easy drinking wine that tastes just like it smells, which is a very good thing. Very true to the variety, this is absolutely delicious and it just keeps on getting better the more time it has to breathe.

It ends dry, long and grippy and was just as good on day 2.

From the winery:

THE BACKGROUND: Grown in the heart of the renowned Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County, these grapes are farmed on the Pedroncelli estate. Situated on the bench above the valley floor, this vineyard gains its’ personality from the soil and the location’s microclimate. Cabernet Franc was planted in 1993 to complement the Three Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Bordeaux blend. We make this small lot wine so this variety can shine on its’ own. The vineyard is sustainably farmed, hand-pruned and hand harvested.

THE VINTAGE: The growing season in 2021 experienced near textbook conditions and was followed by a warm harvest. Drought conditions sped up maturity, intensity of flavors, and color. The grapes were harvested in the second week of September showing a rich concentrated wine with intense varietal flavors and mild acids.

WINEMAKER TASTING NOTES: There’s a bouquet of dark berries, floral notes and black pepper spice followed by flavors of raspberry, pepper, toasty oak and a touch of dry herbs all integrating nicely. The rounded tannins frame the long finish and is accented by toast and spicy notes.

And now on to our review:

The 2021 Pedroncelli East Side Vineyard Cabernet Franc opens with an excellent aroma of enticing spicy dark fruit (plum, black cherry) with a pleasing floral note plus a touch of a minty herbal note. It’s a great start.

Taking a sip reveals this to be delicious, savory stuff — what a lovely example of Cabernet Franc! Wonderfully balanced, with plenty of well-integrated oak in the form of baking spice, vanilla and more plus black pepper and lots of dark, juicy fruit, this is just delicious. Smooth and just a bit tannic, it even has a touch of earthiness.

It ends dry and very long with lots of lasting dusty spice on the dynamic, mouthwatering finish. Like all the Pedroncelli wines this one also has some pretty good aging potential. I loved it and it makes a great change up from Cabernet Sauvignon!
