It comes from a vineyard the Pedroncelli family has been farming for 60 years in the Dry Creek Valley. Aptly named, here’s the story of how the Wisdom Vineyard and this wonderful wine came to be:
Wisdom and winegrowing. It comes with the years of planting, tending, and ultimately learning the best site for a particular grape. In this instance it is the king of red wine grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon, which has been planted on this site for 60 years. 60 years.
The land was purchased by Jim and John Pedroncelli in 1965 and is located on the west side of Dry Creek Valley. Planted to Cabernet Sauvignon the same year, Pedroncelli Winery was the first to establish this variety here.
The vineyard was replanted in 2002 with Clone 4, also known as the Mendoza Clone. It produces smaller more compact bunches and brings deeper color and concentration as a result. Winemaker Montse Reece brings the next level of quality by long aging in French oak and, once bottled, holds it for a year before release.
We now have nearly 60 years of growing Cabernet in this soil and singular microclimate. The knowledge of a place and consistency brings unparalleled quality and, of course, Wisdom.

2021 Pedroncelli Wisdom Cabernet Sauvignon
Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma CountyTHE VINTAGE: The vintage of 2021 was influenced by low amounts of rain and was followed by a warm summer which sped up maturity as well as concentrated flavors and color. The grapes were harvested on September 17th and as a result, the wine shows a rich concentrated with intense varietal flavors and mild acids.
WINEMAKER TASTING NOTES: Deep red-purple in the glass, this is a rich and full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with aromas of blueberry, warm baking spices and toast. The flavors of blueberry follow with plum, mocha and touches of toasted oak notes. Framed by ripe tannins and woven throughout with medium acidity and long, silky tannins. With reserve-style complexity and depth along with an additional year of bottle aging, this is a wine to enjoy now or age for another 10 or more years.
COMPOSITION: 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Malbec
VINE AGE & FARMING: 19 Years Old, Vertical Shoot Position on Cordon Trellis, Clone 4

WINEMAKING: Inoculated with Bordeaux yeast strain and slowly fermented in small stainless-steel tanks for 14 days. Pump overs daily for extraction of color, tannins, and flavor until dry. Extended maceration on skins for 5 days after dry. Transferred to barrels.

The 2021 Pedroncelli Wisdom Cabernet Sauvignon opens with an absolutely lovely aroma of succulent blackberry, black cherry and plum plus leather, licorice, baking spice, dried herbs, cedar, tobacco, espresso and more! It’s a fantastic start.
The wine tastes juicy, rich, big and uber-delicious! Deep, super concentrated and super flavorful the wine has great structure and plenty of aging potential. And even with the huge flavors it maintains its balance nicely. I especially love the addition of 13% Malbec to the blend, and it gets even better the longer it is open.
It ends dry, a bit dusty and grippy and very long on the lasting, savory finish. It was just as good on day 2.
