Sojourn Cellars Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

THE VINEYARD: Our Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is a blend of five vineyards and several clones. This wine showcases the beautiful expression of Pinot noir when grown in the cool climate and loamy soils offered within the Russian River Valley. Wohler Vineyard Pinot noir provides classic Russian River Valley characteristics from its site adjacent to the river. Riddle Vineyard, located in Green Valley, provides complexity and nuance. Bucher Vineyard, near Rochioli, adds rich structure and fresh fruit flavors. A small proportion of the renowned Reuling and UV Laguna Vineyards balance out the blend with intense aromas, earthy notes and silky tannins.

WINEMAKER NOTES: A warm 2022 summer brought one of the earliest harvests on record in the Sonoma Coast, with a September heat wave influencing some picking decisions. Cooler pockets of the Sonoma Coast fared well through the heat and the resulting wines offer depth and finesse. Yields were miniscule, with many vineyards breaking records on the low side for cluster weights. The resulting wines have concentrated flavors with tension and length. We fermented each vineyard block of our Russian River Valley grapes separately in small lots to retain subtle differences and add complexity in the final blend. Each lot was aged in high-quality French oak barriques and blended just before bottling. The 2022 vintage offers intense red fruit flavors and a smooth medium-bodied texture.

The 2022 Sojourn Cellars Russian River Valley Pinot Noir opens with a classic, inviting aroma of black cherry, plum, a little cranberry and touches of baking spice, black tea and more. It’s a great start.

In the mouth, the wine tastes just delicious with similar flavors to the nose including lots of black cherry and black tea. It also has great depth on the tart, juicy fruit. Smooth and fresh, this is just a pleasure to drink.

It ends dry, quite long and just a touch grippy and was even a bit better on day 2. Fantastic!
