Starfield Vineyards returns to our deals with two Bulk Buy, Perfect 10 Taste Rating reds from the Sierra Foothills. It’s the 94-point Starfield Grenache and Cinsaut.
Hailing from their high elevation estate vineyards in El Dorado, these two extremely low production beauties spend 18 months in French oak.
This is truly the good stuff, as those of you who got into one of their previous deals know. It’s also no surprise as some of our most popular deals have come from the Sierra Foothills region – Scott Harvey, Andis Wines, Twisted Oak and Frog’s Tooth just to name a few.
Today we turn to the El Dorado AVA just to the north of Amador for this spectacular 4-pack deal which includes:
- 2 bottles of the 2022 Starfield Vineyards Grenache. Planted at 2,300-2,400 feet of elevation at the Starfield Estate vineyard in El Dorado, the wine was aged 18 months in French oak (16% new) and just 326 cases were produced. 100% Grenache, it normally retails for $42. In addition to 93-points from Wine Enthusiast, the wine received a Triple Gold rating and Best of Class designation at Dan Berger’s International Wine Competition as well as 94 Points and a Best Grenache designation at the Foothill Wine Fest. We also rate it 94-points.
- 2 bottles of the 2022 Starfield Vineyards Cinsaut. Planted at 2,250 feet of elevation at the Starfield Estate vineyard in El Dorado and aged 18 months in French oak (25% new), just 400 cases were produced. It is 95% Cinsaut, 3% Counoise and 2% Grenache and normally retails for $38. It also received 93-points from Wine Enthusiast plus a Triple Gold rating and Best of Class designation at Dan Berger’s International Wine Competition as well as Gold ratings at the Critics Challenge and San Francisco Chronicle competitions. We rate it at 94-points.

Because we’re only shipping at the beginning of the week, these orders may take a bit more time to ship after the conclusion of the offer (likely 5-12 days rather than our normal 5-10).
These orders have an additional cost of $8 built into the product price for this Heat Protection Package. It is NOT possible (nor would it be advisable!) to purchase a deal with summer shipping without also including the Heat Protection Package.

While we take every precaution we can with our Summer Shipping protocol, we also know that many of you travel or live in very hot areas where you don’t want to risk it (or you simply detest styrofoam).

Up first, let’s take a look at the 2022 Starfield Vineyards Grenache. You will receive two bottles in today’s 4-pack.

Tasting Notes: The 2022 vintage of Grenache is fresh, floral, & contains a surprising depth of red and black fruits. It opens with a powerful bouquet, rich with rose petal, mountain lilac, & fresh tobacco leaf, accented by spicy notes of nutmeg & white pepper. The palate is just as lush as the nose, but with moderate weight and great energy. A broad entry of classic notes of dried strawberry, freshly picked blueberry, & ripe mulberry, underscored by earthy notes of ground clove, tarragon, & toasted oak. Taut, dusty tannins weave in and out of the concentrated fruit flavors, leading to a long, lingering finish. This is a perfect dinner wine & is drinking quite well now but will continue to age & evolve until 2030.

And now on to our review:
The 2022 Starfield Vineyards Grenache opens with aromas of strawberry and raspberry plus some beautiful spice and white pepper notes. It’s a fantastic start!
Taking a sip reveals the wine to be balanced and smooth with a nice streak of spice and similar flavors to the nose. Savory too, it is especially good after some time in the glass. This is a great example of Grenache and excellent with food.
It ends dry, very long, juicy and savory on the finish was maybe even a bit better on day 2 and even day 3.

Tasting Notes: The 2022 Cinsaut is enticingly bright, juicy, & fruit forward, with a soft thread of acidity running throughout, making it the perfect sipper for a hot day. Aromas of jasmine, pomegranate, & ripe raspberry burst from the glass, while more subtle notes of Madagascan vanilla, dried bay leaf, & nutmeg add depth & draw you in. The palate is loaded with notes of fresh blood orange & dried strawberry, leading to a long finish doused with lemon thyme & a swathe of super soft, velvety tannins that keep you coming back for more. This delicate red is soft, elegant, & effortlessly delicious. Drink now through 2028.

And now on to our review:
There are lots of layers to sniff through on the 2022 Starfield Vineyards Cinsaut. It begins with quite a beautiful aroma of fruit, flowers and potpourri and continues with excellent touches of dried herbs. It’s a great start.
Tasting the wine reveals it to be smooth and wonderfully balanced with an excellent spicy streak throughout. Very harmonious, it features similar flavors to the nose with lots of juicy fruit in the mouth.
Touches of cola, licorice and blood orange lead into the dry, long, juicy and a bit grippy finish. This is excellent and it was even a bit better on day 2.
