• 1 bottle of the 2021 Tin Barn Pickberry Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from this legendary vineyard on Sonoma Mountain. Aged 19 months in French oak, just 591 cases were produced. Complex, deep and delicious we rate it at 92-93 points. Normally only available from the winery, it retails for $45.
• 1 bottle of the 2021 Tin Barn Pickberry Vineyard Merlot that is also aged 19 months in French oak. Only 126 cases were produced. We dubbed this Merlot “Pure Pleasure” on a previous offer and that is equally as true with the 2021 vintage of this wine. We rate it at 92-93 points and it has an SRP of $42.

Along the outskirts of Sonoma, on a foggy slope facing the San Pablo Bay, lies a small family estate farmed by the Ricci Family for more than a hundred years. The fruit we source from this vineyard is a combination of two clones, 777 and Pommard, resulting in a silky, supple Pinot Noir.

And now on to our review:

The 2021 Tin Barn Vineyards Ricci Vineyard Carneros Pinot Noir pours a beautiful light red in the glass. It opens with a lovely, classic aroma of cherry, rhubarb, cola, baking spice and cranberry along with touches of tomato plant and earth. This is Pinot Noir through and through.

Tasting reveals lots of delicious, juicy cranberry and cherry along with licorice, cola, some light earthy flavors and nice touches of spice. Pretty much everything from the nose shows up in the mouth which is a very good thing. Plus, it’s all wrapped up in a wonderfully silky-smooth mouthfeel. This is VERY tasty.

It ends dry, very long and juicy with some spice at the very end. It might have even been a bit smoother on day 2 if that’s possible. This is a fabulous example of Carneros Pinot once again!

Pickberry Vineyard sprawls over 30 rolling acres on the northeast slope of Sonoma Mountain. Planted in the 1980s in volcanic soil, the vines are subject to balmy days and cool nights which contribute an exquisite fruit expression with balanced velvety tannins.

And now on to our review:

The 2021 Tin Barn Vineyards Pickberry Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a bit shy when first opened but with time you’ll find quite a complex aroma. Black cherry, spice, cedar, licorice, dried herbs, black tea, tobacco, mint and more all combine very harmoniously. It’s a great start.

Taking a sip reveals it to be smooth and juicy with all those same touches from the nose combining very nicely in the mouth. Again, it needs a couple hours to open up but then it just keeps getting better with more and more nuances coming out. Balanced, structured and with good depth, this is perhaps a bit more on the elegant side of things as far as Cabernet goes but however you describe it, it is delicious.

It ends dry, quite long, grippy on the satisfying finish and was similar on day 2.

Finally, let’s take a look at the 2021 Tin Barn Vineyards Pickberry Vineyard Merlot. You will receive one bottle in today’s 3-pack.

And now on to our review:

The 2021 Tin Barn Vineyards Pickberry Vineyard Merlot begins with a strong and simply wonderful aroma of dark fruit, vanilla, spice, cocoa, licorice, leather and more.

It only takes one sip to discover this is pure pleasure. In the mouth you’ll find lots of rich, juicy fruit loaded with all those same touches from the nose – vanilla, spice, cocoa, leather, licorice and more wrapped up in a smooth mouthfeel. If you enjoy wines with a lot of oak influence, this is the one for you! There’s nothing subtle about it including the tannins.

It ends dry, grippy, very long and juicy with lots of lingering flavors and was just as good on day 2.

Quite tasty now, this is likely to improve over the next couple of years and indeed once opened, it gets even better the more time it has to breathe.
