This 2015 vintage is aged to perfection at this point saving you years of cellar time. We give it a Perfect 10 Taste Rating (94+ points). Only 75 cases were made.
It comes from a small family owned winery and 2-acre vineyard in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley that produces a total of just 250-500 cases per year. Starting from a wine tasting group in the 80s and home winemaking in the 90s, Kasten Family Wines planted their vineyard in 2003 after careful study of the soils and area. This is a labor of love and these are wines that truly reflect a sense of their place (i.e. this is no cookie cutter Napa Cab).
And what a special place it is. The Oak Knoll District in southern Napa Valley is surrounded by Mount Veeder, Yountville, Stags Leap, Atlas Peak, Coombsville and Los Carneros. Just recently becoming it’s own AVA in 2004, it is one of the cooler sub-appellations in Napa Valley.
This area is known for its Cabernet and Bordeaux blends and the prices here show it. Today’s wine is normally only available from the winery for $55 a bottle. Not so today…

Cabernet Sauvignon Bordeaux-style wine from the Kasten Estate Vineyard in Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. Vintages are often blended with a bit of Merlot and Cabernet Franc from neighboring vineyards of the Oak Knoll District.
This wine has aromas of dark chocolate and cedar followed by rich flavors of black cherry with hints of savory spices. It is well balanced and has good acidity. Aged in 30% new French Oak barrels for 2 years.

The 2015 Kasten Family Wines Oak Knoll District Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon opens with lovely aromas of black cherry, cedar, wonderfully integrated spice, chocolate, vanilla and much more. It also has some of those savory secondary notes that can only come from a wine with some age on it. It’s a fantastic start.
Taking a sip reveals an extremely delicious wine that just keeps getting better with air. It has aged wonderfully and still has plenty of juicy fruit with great depth, structure and acidity but also has, like the aroma, some of those fabulous secondary notes you only find on a mature wine. Featuring similar flavors to the nose wrapped up in a smooth and lively mouthfeel, this is quite harmonious.
It ends dry, very long, dynamic and a bit grippy and it was just as rich and delicious on day 2. I love it! With just 75 cases made this will certainly be your only chance at this wine, so don’t miss it.
