The 2021 we are offering today was just recently released so it doesn’t have many outside scores yet (besides an excellent 92-point rating and Gold Medal from the Sunset International Wine Competition), but we think it is every bit as good as the last two vintages and easily gets a perfect 10 (94+ Point) Taste Rating from us.

This Kukeri Napa Cab is made up of 86.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5.3% Petit Verdot, 4.4% Merlot, 2.8% Cabernet Franc and 1.3% Malbec from some of the best growing regions in Napa Valley, including the Truchard vineyard in Los Carneros and Canyon Hill Vineyard.
It was aged for 16 months in 80% French and 20% American oak barrels with 40% new French oak. It is typically only available from the winery and just 250 cases were produced.
All of this to say, this is truly splurge worthy stuff and we’re delighted to be able to offer it to you once again. We’ve consumed many bottles of this wine and have more sitting in our own cellar.

The 2021 Kukeri Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of fruit from some of the best Cabernet growing regions in Napa Valley, including the Truchard vineyard, located in Los Carneros and Canyon Hill Vineyard in the fertile valley of Franklin Canyon. A touch of Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec balance the rich dark fruit and massive tannins of our 2021 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, adding a vibrancy to its lush mouthfeel and lingering dry finish and balanced acidity.
The grapes were handpicked at the beginning of October, de-stemmed and crushed into small fermentation bins and allowed to cold soak for 3 days to help stabilize the color and enhance flavor. It was fermented for 16 days and punched down 3 times a day, with an additional 3 days extended maceration to increase extraction of color and phenolic compounds. The wine is then gently pressed and aged on fine lees for 16 months in mixture of 80% French and 20% American oak barrels with 40% new French oak to preserve the delicate notes and mouthfeel.
Intense and vibrant our 2021 Kukeri Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, exhibiting aromas of dark fruits, black tea, tobacco, and green olives, accented with earthy spice notes. A hint of mountain forest, cedar oak and dusty baking cocoa combine these aromatics to create this juicy and chewy, full-bodied Napa Cabernet Sauvignon with refreshing acidity and long legs, which makes a perfect accompaniment to any grilled meat dishes.

The very young 2021 Kukeri Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon needs a good open of time to open up but then reveals a wonderful, savory, harmonious aroma of dark berry fruit, spice, a little earth, graphite, licorice and black tea, a touch of tobacco and more. I would highly recommend decanting this wine for a few hours before serving, or at the minimum open the bottle first thing the morning of the day you’re going to drink it.
The full-bodied wine tastes stunningly delicious and combines all those components from the nose rather wonderfully, although the deep dark fruit is a bit more brambly in the mouth. It’s quite tannic but amazingly balanced even at this young age. (When the winery mentions “massive” tannins, they mean it!)
It ends dry, very long, juicy and chewy. This is absolutely delicious and easily gets a 10 Taste Rating. It even improved on day two, which is a testament to its young age. It’s rare that you find a wine that is this harmonious and well put together. Super drinkable now after a good decant, it should just keep on improving for next 10 years as well.
This is well worth the splurge, especially with the holidays coming!
