Produced since 1910, we review a classic, dry example of the sparkling red wine Lambrusco, the Lini 910 Labrusca Rosso.
85% Salamino and 15% Ancellotta red sparkling wine from Emilia-Romagna, Italy.
The wine is produced using the Charmat method where a secondary fermentation occurs in large tanks in order to produce the delicious bubbles. It has 12 g/L of residual sugar.
Red sparkling wines have gotten a bit of a bad rap thanks to the sweet, one-dimensional examples that dominated the market for a generation (thanks Riunite). But this style of wine is (and always has been) much more complex and interesting than that. Today, we’re checking out a classic, dry example.
Sample submitted for review. The Lini 910 Lambrusco has an SRP of $18 and is available for as low as $13. It is imported by Winebow Inc. 150,000 bottles were produced.
From the importer:
Lini’s wines are renowned for their signature freshness and classic dry character. Thanks to Fabio Lini’s artisanal approach to sparkling wine production, their bright red fruit and berry flavors are balanced by juicy minerality. Their clean but lingering finish makes them an ideal pairing for a wide variety of cuisines.

The non-vintage Lini 910 Labrusca Rosso opens with a pleasing, savory aroma of dark berry fruit and some wonderful floral notes. It also smells a bit sweet, which had us a bit worried, but to our relief that’s not the case when tasting.
Taking a sip reveals more dark berry fruit in this crisp, mostly dry tasting wine. Still savory, it features good acidity, lots of fine bubbles and even a touch of minerality.
It ends dry, crisp and long. Very food friendly, this would make a great change of pace for your next BBQ. We also recommend giving it a try with Mexican food, which can be notoriously hard to pair red wines with.
