From the bottle:
Don Luis Gurpegui Muga, related by birth and winemaking business to Rioja, always wanted to develop terroir wines, that is, wines from a vineyard of great personality. Here is his ground work from vineyards that he himself planted and selected with his exquisite winemaking savoir faire.
Bottled by Bodegas Luis Garpegui Muga
13.5% Alcohol
The 2021 Luis Gurpegui Muga Rioja 147 Aniversario Tempranillo opens with a pleasing aroma of black cherry, spice, plum, leather, a little licorice and vanilla, a touch of balsamic and even more. It’s a great start and it gets even better as it breathes.
Taking a sip reveals flavors similar to the nose with smooth, juicy, fine dense tannins throughout and good balance. This is an easy drinker with enough complexity to keep things interesting.
It ends dry and grippy on the long finish and was just as good on day 2. At the $10 Costco price, this is a great wine for Rioja lovers to stock up on.
