Atlas Wine Co is a new generation winery with family roots specializing in a vineyard to bottle approach with minimal winemaking intervention. Atlas Wine Co. was created in 2014 by three families and is currently operated by those same families – The Belli’s, The Cybulski’s, and The Remy’s. Together they have been able to share their love of vineyards and wine in their two brands: Omen and Oro Bello. Omen Wines are hand-crafted with care from high-quality fruit that have come from “hidden gem” AVA vineyards. This means we have no need to sweeten our wines, or add gum arabic (used to increase mouthfeel) or Velcorin (DMDC). Our desire is to bring excellent wines to anyone, regardless of age or income, who are eager to find an additive-free, crafted wine at an everyday price.

The 2020 Omen Red Blend comes entirely from the Sierra Foothills of California. It is comprised of 60% Zinfandel from the Element 79 and Sierra Moon vineyards in the Fair Play AVA plus 18% Syrah from the Sierra Moon vineyard, 12% Barbera from the Rancho Victoria vineyard in the Shenandoah AVA and 10% Petite Sirah also from the Element 79 vineyards in the Fair Play AVA. The wine is aged for 9 months in French oak (30% new, 70% neutral), has zero residual sugar and is vegan friendly.

The 2020 Omen Red Blend begins with a very pleasing aroma full of ripe dark fruit and spice plus licorice, cola, dark chocolate and vanilla.

Taking a sip reveals more ripe, tart, juicy fruit plus loads of cocoa and licorice wrapped up in a soft and smooth mouthfeel. It actually tastes a bit sweet but there's no residual sugar to be found. It reminds me a bit of dark cherries dipped in dark chocolate. Rich and delicious, there's loads of flavor in this full-bodied wine. It does need some air to open up but it keeps getting better as it does and is really nice after a few hours.

It ends dry and quite long with lots of lingering chocolate. Super satisfying, this is a chocolate lover's delight! I love it and it was just as good on day 2.
