The winery behind the excellent MS Behave Malbec in our Perfect 10 box plus the best-selling Para Siempre is back with an another Perfect 10 Taste rating in this amazing estate grown Zinfandel from Paso Robles.
And what a Zin it is! Comprised of 76% Zinfandel, 15% Petite Sirah, 6% Syrah and 3% Grenache, this wine has virtually no residual sugar (0.3 g/L). Only 393 cases were produced and it received a 91-point score from Wine Enthusiast. While that’s a great score, we like it even more, giving it 94 points.
The wine was aged a total of about 18 months including 8 months in 40% new French and Hungarian oak puncheons plus French and American oak barrels after the final blend was assembled. Speaking of the blend, we love the additions to the delicious Zinfandel here as they add all kinds of dimensions to this luscious wine. The grapes are all estate grown and come from the same vineyards as the MS Behave Malbec and the Para Siempre.
All of this goodness understandably comes at a hefty normal price of $46 a bottle but of course you won’t pay anywhere near that through today’s deal…

Tasting Notes: A classic blend of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, the Vortex has a dark crimson color and a gamey, spicy nose. Scents of blackberries and blueberries lead to a bright, elegant body with lush flavors of dark fruits and plum.
Winemaker Notes: Perhaps the most fun zinfandel blend to assemble every year, Vortex has always been a blend of some of the best barrels of Zinfandel from our cellar, and 2020 is no exception. This vintage sees every block of dry-farmed Zinfandel at Mustang Springs represented, along with a single, stunning puncheon of Old Schoolhouse Zinfandel. Portions of Jump Hill Syrah and Grenache and Snow Petite Sirah were feathered into the hand selected Zinfandel to create an intriguing blend of Zinfandel and Rhone varieties. For the first time since at least 2017, Vortex is 100% Estate Grown. Blended from a selection of the best barrels of Zinfandel throughout the cellar in June 2021, this wine was aged for an additional 8 months in 40% new Hungarian and French oak puncheons, with the remainder in French and American oak barrels. The final blend was bottled in March of 2022.

The 2020 Peachy Canyon Vortex Zinfandel opens with a wonderful aroma full of dark berry fruit, some dusty spice, licorice and much more especially as it has some time to breathe. It’s a very nice start.
Taking a sip reveals a really delicious, luscious blend with fabulous balance and depth. It’s full of juicy fruit plus well-integrated spice. I especially love the additions to the delicious Zin here that add another dimension.
It ends dry and very long on the lip-smacking, juicy and luscious finish. I love it and it was even better on day 2 where the finish was somehow even longer and more dynamic. Stock up on this one Zin lovers!
