It was aged 12 months in American oak (30% new) and has an SRP of just $24 (a crazy value even at the normal price).

Let’s take a look at the Petite Sirah first, you will receive one bottle in today’s 3-pack.
From the winery:
This richly flavored grape, long known for its intense characteristics, has been grown alongside Zinfandel in Dry Creek Valley for over 100 years. Petite Sirah has been planted on our Home Ranch Vineyard since the early 1900s. The Bushnell Vineyard has grown this grape for nearly 90 years and has been a source of fruit since the 1940s.
THE VINTAGE: A warm growing season was defined by a hot summer followed by a few heat spikes in September which ripened the fruit earlier. The grapes were picked the first week of September based on maturity and acidity levels. There was a high concentration of phenols and aromatics in this vintage which enhances the bouquet and flavor dramatically.
WINEMAKER TASTING NOTES: Full flavored, deep purple and full-bodied, this Petite Sirah is very aromatic with ripe berries, vanilla and cooking spices. On the palate find blueberry, dark chocolate, black pepper and warm spice. Sturdily structured with firm tannins and a long full finish. It has the potential to age well over 10 additional years or more.

And now on to our review:
Wow, this pours incredibly deep and dark and almost thick in the glass. It’s definitely Petite Sirah!
The 2021 Pedroncelli Estate Vineyards Petite Sirah opens with a big aroma full of dark berry fruit, lots of baking spice and licorice plus leather, black pepper, vanilla, chocolate and more. It’s certainly not subtle, but that’s what you want with this variety.
Taking a sip reveals a big, dense, tannic and chewy wine that tastes just like it smells, which is a very good thing. It does need some time to breathe but then it just keeps on getting better.
It ends dry, long and grippy and was similar on day 2.

The source for our Merlot comes from three vineyard blocks off our estate vineyard located along Dry Creek Road planted in the early 1990s. East Side Vineyard has natural benches that flank Dry Creek Valley and rise gradually from the valley floor. Characterized by sloped topography and gravelly residual soils, the unique growing conditions combine to bring out the best in our Merlot.
THE VINTAGE: The growing season in 2021 was near textbook in conditions and was followed by a warm harvest. Drought conditions sped up maturity, intensity of flavors, and color. The grapes were harvested in the second week of September showing a rich concentrated wine with intense varietal flavors and mild acids.
WINEMAKER TASTING NOTES: Aromas of dark red fruits and a touch of cooking spices. Flavors of cherry and plum are showcased with vanilla toast notes. Medium-bodied with soft tannins which follow through to a long, fruity finish. It is a beautifully balanced wine.

And now on to our review:
The 2021 Pedroncelli East Side Vineyard Merlot opens with an absolutely lovely, almost dusty aroma of dark berry fruit with touches of spice, vanilla, cedar and licorice. It’s a fantastic start.
It only takes one sip to know that this is another excellent wine from Pedroncelli. Smooth and very satisfying with that signature round and full Merlot mouthfeel, it features delicious juicy dark fruit intermingled with excellent baking spice. Everything just works together perfectly.
It ends with a dry, savory and long finish with a bit of that dustiness from the nose returning along with lingering juicy fruit and continuing spice.
Excellent! And this one is just a baby. As always with these wines from Pedroncelli if you can resist drinking them in the short term (good luck!) you will be highly rewarded once they have a few years of age.

And finally let’s take a look at the Mother Clone Zinfandel, you will receive one bottle in today’s 3-pack.
From the winery:
The Pedroncelli house is founded on Zinfandel. It was the first grape planted in the early 1900s, it was the first wine founder Giovanni made after Prohibition ended and it was also the first varietal we labeled under our name in 1947. Using the budwood from the mother vineyard to clone a second generation carries our vineyard story forward, echoing the generations of our family. The fruit from three generations of these “mother” vines are part of the blend as well as fruit from the Bushnell and Giovannoni vineyards.
HARVEST & WINEMAKING NOTES: The vintage of 2021 was influenced by low amounts of rain and was followed by a warm summer which sped up maturity as well as concentrated flavors and color. Harvest was early and the different blocks were hand-picked the second week of September. The growing season resulted in a rich wine with intense varietal flavors and mild acids.
At the crushpad, destemmed grapes are transferred to a fermentation tank to cold soak for 48 hours and then is inoculated with selected yeast. Daily pump-overs and fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks with delestage regimes are done for maximum phenolic extraction. Pressing follows and the new wine is transferred to storage tanks until barreled down. Twelve months of aging in American oak barrels develops additional complexity. The addition of Petite Sirah (10%) adds depth and structure to the wine.
TASTING NOTES: Our Mother Clone is a classic ‘Dry Creek’ Zinfandel with spicy aromas of ripe cinnamon and white pepper along with red berries and a touch of vanilla. Red cherry flavors combine with vanilla, licorice and warm baking spices. The berry-spice combination, so typical of Dry Creek Zin, includes a touch of pepper on the rounded finish which are a hallmark of our style. Enjoy now or cellar for three to five years.

The 2021 Pedroncelli Mother Clone Zinfandel opens with a wonderful aroma of blackberry, plum, baking spice, licorice and touches of vanilla that all combine seamlessly. It’s a fantastic start.
Taking a sip reveals a lovely, super smooth, super harmonious, medium to full-bodied wine filled with juicy dark berry fruit, more wonderfully integrated spice, vanilla and a little cola.
Balanced and delicious, black pepper and spice lead into the dry, grippy, extremely long finish of this fantastic wine. It was similar on day 2.
And while it’s drinking amazingly well now, we know from experience that the wines from Pedroncelli get even better with age so don’t be afraid to stock up.
This is one of the better vintages of this wine we’ve tasted and that’s saying something! There is tons of value in this wine.
