From an exclusive area of Provence, we review the new vintage of the Trader Joe’s Grand Reserve Bandol Rosé Lot #130.
The label doesn’t specify but Bandol rosé are typically made from Mourvedre, Grenache and Cinsault. The region is located in Provence, France.
Bandol, where the vines soak in the French Riviera sun on the Mediterranean coast, is well known for their wines and their rosé wines rank among the best Provence has to offer. Their typical prices also show it, so we were quite excited to spy this new label at Trader Joe’s last year and just as excited to see it return this year.
Today’s wine is made by Famille Ravoire, whose own Bandol rosé sells for around $23, which is quite reasonable for the region. As is the case with all the Grand Reserve wines, this wine is priced at $12.99 and available exclusively at Trader Joe’s. It is imported by Wine Situation LLC.
There is no further info available on the bottle. The wine has 13.5% alcohol.
The 2024 Trader Joe’s Grand Reserve Bandol Rosé Lot #130 offers attractive aromas of mixed berries with a little apple and some floral notes. This vintage isn’t as shy on the nose as the 2023 was.
Tasting the wine reveals it to have both nice depth and quaffability, which isn’t always easy to do. Featuring similar flavors to the nose that are a bit more tangy in the mouth, it also features a silky smooth mouthfeel and good balance. This is quite interesting and easy to drink.
It ends crisp, dry and quite long on the satisfying, lip-smacking finish. No one is going to mistake this for one of the best bottles from Bandol, but this is really delicious once again and a very nice example of Provence rosé at this price. It didn’t last long in the store last year so stock up rosé lovers!
