Willamette Valley Pinot on the cheap, but does it deliver? We review the Trader Joe’s Grand Reserve Willamette Valley Pinot Noir Lot 124.
Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley, Oregon.
This wine is available exclusively at Trader Joe’s and sells for $12.99. Like most of their private label wines there’s not much info available.
From Trader Joe’s:
Lot #124
Bright notes of raspberry and cherries with subtle acidity and elegant style.
Produced and Bottled by DW Hinman Cellars
13.5% Alcohol
The 2022 Trader Joe’s Grand Reserve Willamette Valley Pinot Noir Lot 124 opens with aromas of raspberry and black cherry along with some nice baking spice, licorice and earth. It smells like a promising start.
The wine tastes smooth and light bodied and features many of the same flavors as the nose. And while it is easy to drink, it also lacks structure and the flavors fall off pretty quickly. Unfortunately the promise of the nose is never fully realized.
It ends with a dry, medium length finish and was slightly better on day 2 so be sure to give it plenty of air. It’s not bad for the price (especially for Willamette Valley) but it’s also probably not something I would seek out again.
