52% Grenache and 48% Syrah from the Vinsobres appellation in the southern Rhone Valley of France.
Previously one of the named Cotes du Rhone Villages, the area around the town of Vinsobres became it’s own AOC in 2006, elevating it to Cru status joining Beaumes-de-Venise, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Lirac, Rasteau, Tavel and Vacqueyras in the southern Rhone Valley.
Just like most of the rest of the larger Rhone region, the predominant red grape varieties are Grenache and Syrah. And at just 10 bucks it’s a great price for wine from this region. Let’s check it out.

The 2023 Trader Joe’s Reserve Vinsobres Lot #263 opens with an attractive aroma of dark fruit, a touch meaty at first, plus some notes of black pepper and spice with a bit of strawberry underneath. It’s a nice start.
Tasting the wine reveals a smooth mouthfeel with similar flavors to the nose. This is an easy to drink blend that is also balanced and structured.
It ends dry, long and grippy with a nice little burst of oaky spice at the very end. This wine is still quite young but has a lot of promising characteristics. It was similar on day 2.
