2021 turned out to be an excellent year for this inaugural release. Thanks to very little rainfall in Lake County, the Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre vines used for this wine produced smaller than usual berries. This may not necessarily sound like a good thing, but it in fact leads to very concentrated fruit flavors. The resulting wine, which also spent some time in oak barrels, is magnificent.
Structured, smooth, harmonious, balanced, grippy and more, it’s easy to see why the SRP is $70.

Vintage 2021: We received 1/3 of our annual rainfall in 2021. The spring was mild and spring flowers were early. This was followed by a heatwave in May, June & July of 90-105˚F + temps. This brought on an early and quick harvest starting on August 12th and ending October 20th. Despite the drought, our sheep were busy adding organic matter to the rows, to aid in soil moisture retention. The berries were small, but oh so concentrated. We were all looking forward to the delicious release of this vintage.
Tasting Notes: This GSM exhibits a vibrant ruby-red color with purple tones. The aroma is a delightful blend of bright red fruit, such as cherry and raspberry from Grenache, complemented by the darker fruit and peppery notes of Syrah, and the added complexity of earthy and herbal tones from Mourvèdre. On the palate, the wine strikes a balance with soft tannins, a moderate to full body, and a well-integrated oak. It is a harmonious and approachable wine, offering a mix of fruitiness, structure, and complexity. – Jeronimo Da Valle, Winemaker

And now on to our review:
The 2021 13 Rams GSM opens with a lovely, simply intoxicating aroma of dark, spicy berry fruit plus touches of vanilla, black pepper, herbs and much, much more.
Tasting the wine reveals it to be smooth, structured and balanced with great depth and harmony. Grippy and a bit chewy, it features juicy fruit plus all the other touches from the nose. Be sure to take your time with this one, as even more layers come out as it breathes. This is magnificent!
It ends dry, very long and grippy on the fantastic finish. I love, love, love a good GSM especially when Mourvedre is the biggest component and this one nails it. It was just as good on day 2.
