William Wright Reserve Pinot Noir - The Right Stuff

By: Jon Thorsen Published: April 15, 2022 Last Updated: January 1, 2023

Looking for a classic, earthy Pinot at a budget-friendly price? The William Wright Pinot Noir from Aldi is for you.

William Wright Reserve Pinot Noir - The Right Stuff

Pinot Noir from Monterey County, California. The wine ages on French oak for 12 months.

The William Wright Reserve Pinot Noir is available exclusively at Aldi and sells for just $9.99. It is produced by Scheid Family Wines.

    From the bottle:

Our Reserve Lot Pinot Noir is an elegant wine that shows beautiful aromas and flavors of red cherry and blackberry with subtle vanilla notes. On the palate, smooth tannins and a silky texture lead into a supple, lingering finish. Pairs well with appetizers, salads, poultry, fish & soft cheeses. Best served at room temperature.

Produced & Bottled by William Wright Winery
    13.5% Alcohol

This wine has been a reliable pick for the Pinot Noir lovers for the past several vintages, so today we check out the latest to see if that trend continues.

The 2019 William Wright Pinot Noir begins with a pleasing and very earthy aroma of strawberry, tomato plant, rhubarb, leather, cola and and hints of mint. You can tell right away that this is going to be a good one for people who enjoy a lot of earthiness in their wine.

Taking a sip reveals a medium-bodied, smooth, simple but satisfying wine full of cola, juicy strawberry, black tea and mint. It's a pretty classic earthy Pinot Noir with absolutely nothing not to like at this low price (if you enjoy the earthiness).

It ends with a dry, medium-long finish of lingering cola, licorice, a touch of smoke and (you guessed it) more earthiness.

We didn't find this vintage to be quite as good as the 2018, but it's still definitely a worthy buy for just 10 bucks.

    2019 William Wright Pinot Noir

    OVERALL RATING: 7.3
