A blend of 56% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc and 16% Cabernet Sauvignon from Yakima Valley, Washington State. The wine spends 16 months in 100% French Oak (39% new, 25% 1-3 year, 36% neutral). It is also vegan friendly.
A Washington State red blend anchored by wonderful Washington Merlot that retails for under $20? Count us interested. Today we’re checking out a wine from Airfield Estates, so named because the land once housed a flight school for Army Air Corps pilots during World War II.

WINEMAKER’S NOTES – This Right Bank Bordeaux -style blend encapsulates the richness of plum and spice with the elegance of smooth tannins with soft oak. Black cherry flavors on the palate lead to a long, well-balanced finish. Pairs excellently with rich meat and pastas.

The 2022 Airfield Dauntless Yakima Valley Red Blend opens with an inviting, harmonious aroma of black cherry, blackberry, spice, a little cedar and touches of licorice and coffee.
Tasting the wine reveals it to be smooth with similar flavors to the nose plus lots of spicy notes. It also features good balance and depth. This is quite easy to drink.
It ends dry and long and was similar on day 2. We’ll put this one at high end of our 8 Taste Rating (90 points).
