Barton & Guestier Cotes du Rhone – Simply Enjoyable

By: Jon Thorsen Published: October 31, 2019 Last Updated: October 1, 2021

A $10 red blend you can't help but enjoy, the Barton & Guestier Cotes du Rhone Les Galets.

Barton & Guestier Cotes du Rhone – Simply Enjoyable

50% Syrah, 30% Carignan and 20% Grenache from the Southern Rhone, France. The wine does not spend time in oak and is vegan friendly.

Sample submitted for review. The Barton & Guestier Cotes du Rhone has an SRP of $15 but can be found closer to $10. Ready to buy? Check your local retailers. Imported by Barton & Guestier USA.

    From the bottle:

The first barrels of wine marked with Thomas Barton's own seal left from the port of Bordeaux in 1725. Almost 300 years later, Thomas's pioneering spirit is still inspiring us. Our taste for innovation and our pursuit of quality have remained unchanged. We are proud to offer you this collection of fine French Appellation wines that we have carefully vinified in order to reflect the very best of their terroir. "Les Galets" refers to small stones polished by the Rhone river that we find in number in the soil of our parcels.

Intense nose of flowers (violets) and black fruits (black cherry, blackcurrant) combined with peppery hints.
Full on the palate with a nice fruity and spicy aftertaste.
Spicy food, red meat in sauce, cheese. Best served between 61F and 65F.

    14% Alcohol

The 2017 Barton & Guestier Cotes du Rhone Les Galets opens with a pleasing aroma of black cherry, black pepper and a touch of smoked meat. The wine tastes smooth and features nice berry fruit, touches of spice and a bit of earthiness. It may be simple but it's so nicely balanced that you can't help but enjoy it. At only $10 this is a really well made wine and a delicious Cotes du Rhone red. A bit of minerality leads into the dry, long, peppery finish.

Ready to buy? Check your local retailers.
