Up first, we've got the 2018 Talley Vineyard Bishop's Peak Petite Sirah, which is 100% Petite Sirah from the Ranchita Canyon Vineyard in the Estrella River District of Paso Robles, California. The wine is aged for 21 months in 40% new French and American oak. Less than 250 cases were produced.

From the bottle:

This silky fruit driven red wine was produced from 100% petite sirah grapes grown in calcareous soils of the Ranchita Canyon Vineyard in Paso Robles. The grapes were hand harvested, fermented with native yeasts and the wine was aged in American and French oak barrels.

The 2018 Bishop's Peak Petite Sirah is highly aromatic with notes of blackberry, plum, black pepper, spice, leather and plenty more as you sniff and swirl. Vanilla, earth, anise and even more come out after some additional time in the glass.

The wine tastes of juicy dark berry and black cherry fruit and features good spice integration. It's quite tasty and as you would expect, this would go great with a steak. It's also smooth and somewhat tannic just like the Petit Verdot making this a great deal for those that like bigger, more tannic wines.

It ends dry with lasting juicy fruit that turns a bit tart on the very long finish.

Next we've got the 2018 Talley Vineyard Bishop's Peak Petit Verdot, which is 100% Petit Verdot from the Santa Margarita Vineyard in Paso Robles, California. The wine spends 16 months in 40% new French and American oak. Again, less than 250 cases were produced.

From the bottle:

This wine is produced entirely from Petit Verdot grapes grown in the Margarita Vineyard located on the southern side of Paso Robles. The warm, dry climate of the region is ideal for the Petit Verdot, which requires ample sunlight and heat to ripen properly. This robust red wine pairs well with red meat and sharp cheeses.

The 2018 Talley Bishop's Peak Petit Verdot is also very aromatic on the nose featuring tons and tons of lovely dark fruit along with well-integrated spice and a bit of a floral note.

Taking a sip reveals a ripe, rich and delicious wine that is nicely tannic but certainly not overwhelmingly so. It also has a smooth mouthfeel, loads of dark fruit and nice touches of baking spice and licorice.

It ends with a dry, juicy, very long and grippy finish. This is really excellent and a rare chance to taste Petit Verdot as a true single varietal. It's great with all kinds of food too and it gets even better as it has some air.
