A juicy and satisfying example of the variety, we review the Cantina Zaccagnini Tralcetto Pinot Grigio Terre d’Abruzzo IGT.
Pinot Grigio from Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy. The wine is aged on the lees for a short time in stainless steel.
The wine with the little stick! No doubt you’ve seen this one on the shelves of your local stores as the stick on the bottle definitely helps it stand out. Kudos to that, but unless you have a little tiny dog you want to play fetch with, the stick itself doesn’t serve much purpose. The question, of course, is how does the wine taste? Let’s find out.
Sample submitted for review. The Cantina Zaccagnini Tralcetto Pinot Grigio is available widely for as low as $13.
From the bottle:
Il “Vino del Tralcetto” means “the wine of little vine twig”. In other words, the stick you find on the bottle, collected after annual pruning in the vineyards of our beautiful region. Placed by hand on each bottle, it is a small gesture of magic from Italy. Enjoy this crispy Pinot Grigio with luscious shrimp salad of fried anchovies. Serve at 10C
100ml – 74Kcal
12.5% Alcohol
The 2024 Cantina Zaccagnini Tralcetto Pinot Grigio opens with a pleasing aroma full of lemon and lime plus pear, green apple and some light floral and herbal notes. It’s a nice start.
The wine tastes juicy and satisfying with good depth and similar flavors to the nose with perhaps a bit more tartness and green apple in the mouth. Just don’t drink it too cold, as its better when it warms up a bit.
It ends crisp, dry and with good length on the mouth-watering finish. This is a nice example of the variety.
