Chateau Grand Village Bordeaux Superieur Review

Last Updated on June 27, 2025

Deliciously dark and inky, we review the Chateau Grand Village Bordeaux Superieur from Societe Civile du Chateau Lafleur.

Chateau Grand Village Bordeaux Superieur Review

80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc (Bouchet) from Mouillac, Fronsac, Bordeaux, France. The wine is aged for 12 months in barrel (30% new oak, 40% one year old barrels, 30% two years old barrels).

Sample submitted for review. The wine is available for as low as $20 but more commonly around $25. It is imported by Taub Family Selections and 3,000 cases were produced.

From the winery:

Château Grand Village today is a complete and honest wine, without artifice. Harmonious and with great balance, enjoy the wine in its youth. Yet, with a few years in bottle, start appreciating more and more its refined and mineral tannic spine, which make the wine really the “Grand Village of Lafleur.”

The 2020 Chateau Grand Village Bordeaux Superieur pours dark and inky in the glass and immediately greets you with concentrated ripe dark fruit aromas that suck your nose right into it. Add to that touches of chocolate, a bit of a floral note, hints of cigar box, licorice and mint and there is a lot to discover here. It’s very attractive.

The full-bodied wine tastes smooth and round in the mouth and has great balance with good depth on the juicy fruit. All those secondary touches from the nose also make an appearance when tasting. This is delicious stuff.

It ends dry, very long and lingering, and a bit grippy. There’s even a touch of a mineral note at the very end. It was just as good on day 2. Excellent!
