A smooth Merlot from Trader Joe’s, the Chateau Haut Claribes Bordeaux Superieur.
Primarily Merlot from Bordeaux, France. The wine has 2 g/L of residual sugar.
The Chateau Haut Claribes Bordeaux Superieur is available exclusively at Trader Joe’s (in the US) and sells for $8.99. It is imported by Latitude Wines.
Family owned and operated since 1950, Chateau Haut Claribes has practiced sustainable agriculture for 20 years. This wine is made from old vines and develops intense aromas of ripe black berry fruits, cocoa, liquorice and coffee notes. The palate is full-bodied with a soft finish, making it the ideal partner for your meat dishes.
15% Alcohol
The 2019 Chateau Haut Claribes Bordeaux Superieur from Domaines Fontana begins with aromas of ripe dark fruit, licorice and nice touches of spice.
The wine tastes smooth and full-bodied and highlights that signature soft and round mouthfeel of Merlot. Featuring similar flavors to the nose with touches of coffee, dark chocolate and tobacco underneath, it gets better as it has some time to breathe.
The wine ends dry and quite long. It’s a tasty one even if it’s on the simple side. Overall, this is pretty good for the price.
We tasted this one side by side with the Kirkland Signature Bordeaux Superieur, which is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon but also $2 less. I liked that one more overall and especially on day 2 but on day 1 they weren’t too far off in quality.
