Chateau Ste Michelle Canoe Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Review

100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Canoe Ridge Estate in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA in the Columbia Valley of Washington State. The wine is aged for 18 months in 50% new French oak, 4% new American oak and 46% neutral French oak.

Sample submitted for review. This wine has an SRP of $36 but is available for as low as $24.

From the bottle:

This stunning vineyard sits on a south-facing wine-swept slope high above the Columbia River. The vines are planted in soils of flood deposits that are more than 10,000 years old. Heat throughout the growing season is moderated by the strong wind patterns while cool nights provide optimum conditions for flavor development. This complex and elegant wine has focused flavors and silky elegant tannins.

Surprisingly we haven’t reviewed this wine before, just the Canoe Ridge Merlot. Let’s check it out!

The first thing you notice about the 2019 Chateau Ste Michelle Canoe Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon is that it pours amazingly dark in the glass. The next thing are the pleasing aromas of very dark fruit, coffee, mocha, cedar and dusty spice. It’s a nice start.

Tasting the wine reveals it to be smooth and quite dark and deep in the mouth as well with similar flavors to the nose plus a little vanilla and licorice. This is a really delicious, serious wine with good balance.

Plenty of fine tannins lead into the dry, long, a bit grippy finish. It was just as good on day 2 and it paired quite well with our thin mint pretzels from Costco!
