Save XX% on two rarely available single vineyard Cahors Malbec from a superstar producer and a very unique vineyard! Don’t miss your chance to try the 2016 K-lys Malbec and the 2020 K-nom Malbec from Clos Troteligotte.
Malbec straight from the original source – Cahors, France! And this is the good stuff too. Deep, rich, flavorful, and dynamic, these wines are loaded with minerality thanks to the unique iron-rich vineyard from which they originate.

The ever-innovative Emmanuel Rybinski is without question Cahors’ hottest young star. Emmanuel’s ten acre estate sits atop an iron rich plateau on the Southern border of the appellation – the iron chunks scattered atop this vineyard are so pure you could sell them to a smelter.
The property is unusually high in elevation with allows Emmanuel to farm organically with ease (he is above the fog line and therefore has no issues with mildew). Rows are plowed by horse and spaced tightly. In 2005, the operation was classified under rational agriculture and in January 2014, Clos Troteligotte became certified organic.
We’re very excited to bring you today’s 4-pack deal which includes 2 bottles of two different, yet both delicious, expressions of Cahors Malbec.
The 2020 K-nom is the wine to drink now, a perfectly pleasurable, dynamic and juicy Malbec with 15% Merlot added in. It was aged 12 months in cement vats. It garnered a 92-point score from Wine & Spirits Magazine, which we agree with.
K-Lys, on other hand spent 24 months in new French oak plus another 12 months in cement vats. It has incredible aging potential. Jancis Robinson commented on the 2019 K-Lys that “it is one of the most refined, ethereal Cahors I’ve ever tasted.” To save you some cellar time, we were able to dig back a little further to bring you the 2016 vintage which, while still tasting fresh and young at almost 8 years of age, is beginning to come into its own beautifully.
The 2016 K-lys received 91 points from Wine Enthusiast several years ago, but we like it even better than that now, putting it at the very high end of our 9 Taste Rating at 93-points. (And if you have the patience to cellar it for another 5 years or so, that score will likely increase.)
The K-nom has an SRP of $23, while the K-lys is $35, which are both entirely reasonable price tags for small production wines of this quality. But of course, that’s not the way we roll here at Reverse Wine Snob.
We should also add that given how few bottles make it to the US, this likely the last time we’ll be able to offer these vintages so get those orders in while you can!
For the next day you can get two bottles of the 2016 Clos Troteligotte K-lys Malbec plus two bottles of the 2020 Clos Troteligotte K-nom Malbec for just $XX.95 ($XX.99/bottle). That’s a discount of XX% on this 4-pack!

Up first we have the 2016 Clos Troteligotte K-lys Malbec. You will receive 2 bottles in today’s 4-pack deal. This 100% Malbec is made from 30-year-old-vines and spends 24 months in new French oak, followed by 12 months in concrete tanks.
From the winery:
K-Lys is made to show the rich/deep/forward fruit that can be coaxed out of Emmanuel’s vineyard. With that in mind grapes for K-Lys are harvested later in the season each year. To keep things balanced Emmanuel sources this from some of the most iron rich blocks on his estate, and the resulting mineral notes become quite apparent once you age this cuvee in bottle for 5-7 years.
Elaboration: Cold Maceration between 10 and 12°C for 5 days with no yeasts or enzymes. Full body pigeage for 10 days. 30 day maceration. Aged for 24 months in new French oak, followed by 12 months in concrete tanks.
Winemaker: Emmanuel Rybinski
Tasting Notes: A big, spicy wine that is smooth and rich. Dusty tannins, perfumed fruits and dense character, this is a great expression of Cahors.

Residual Sugar: 0.19g/l

And now on to our review:
The 2016 Clos Troteligotte K-lys Malbec opens with a really intoxicating aroma that sucks you right into the glass! There’s ripe, rich fruit plus tons of secondary notes like cinnamon and other baking spice, some wet earth, coffee, mint, cedar, cigar box, leather, licorice and more. You name it and this one’s got it. In fact, you can find something different every time you take a sniff.
The wine tastes deep, rich and flavorful and is nicely balanced. Still fresh and young, it’s just coming into its own at this point. You can tell this wine was built to age! It features a smooth mouthfeel with lots of fine dusty tannins and chalky minerality plus other flavors similar to the nose.
It ends dry and very long with all those nuances from the nose and palate enduring for a very long time. It was just as good on day 2. Beautiful!

Up next, let’s take a look at the 2020 Clos Troteligotte K-nom Malbec. You will receive 2 bottles in today’s 4-pack deal. 85% Malbec and 15% Merlot from 30-year-old vines, the wine spends 12 months in concrete tanks.
From the winery:
The most approachable bottling Emmanuel creates, this Malbec incorporates 15% Merlot, a classic practice in the region to bring plush fruit structure to the dark, mineral driven Malbec character here.
Knom, or Canom, is a French word to descibe a glass of the favorite wine of the house, ordered at the local bistro – as in, “Travernier, sers moi un canom” (“bartender, pour me a glass!”)
Elaboration: Grapes are harvested early for appellation standards and fermented & aged in unlined concrete squares. Cold maceration between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius for 5 days with no yeasts or enzymes during this early stage in order to reveal the subtle fruity aromas. Long fermentation at low temperatures for 10 days with manual punching of the cap. Native yeast. Ageing for 12 months in cement vats.
Winemaker: Emmanuel Rybinski
Tasting Notes: K-nom is the most obviously fruity and approachable wine in Emmanuel’s lineup, with briary raspberry notes throughout. Eminently quaffable, the acids are soft, enhancing K-nom’s drinkability, plus there is a faint saline lick that the variety is known and loved for. Smooth, polished tannins allow for a silky finish.

And now on to our review:
The 2020 Clos Troteligotte K-nom Malbec opens with a very attractive, enticing aroma of dark raspberry and black cherry plus spice, black pepper, balsamic and even a touch of an earthy/mineral note.
Tasting the wine reveals it to be smooth, lush and quite delicious with great balance and depth. A bit grippy and chalky, it is full of wonderful rich, juicy fruit with all those same touches the nose. And it gets even better with air.
It ends with a dry, very long, dynamic and juicy finish and was similar on day 2.
Cheers,
Jon
