Today we’re very happy to welcome Dashe Cellars to our Insider Deals with two stellar examples from their highly acclaimed Les Enfants Terribles (“Wild Children”) series of Old World style wines. THIS LIMITED TIME OFFER IS NOW SOLD OUT! Sign up below to make sure you get the next one. Learn more about our winery direct INSIDER DEALS here.

Intended to let the true essence of the grape shine though in a very food-friendly way, the wines are made by the innovative Mike Dashe who worked with Paul Draper at Ridge Vineyards for a number of years before starting his own Dashe Cellars. The Les Enfants Terribles idea started with the Zin a number of years ago and due to its popularity has evolved into a number of other varietals as well. And you don’t want to miss the two delicious examples we have today!

Wine Enthusiast rates the Zinfandel on offer here today at 92 points and the Grenache at 91 points. We agree giving both a Taste Rating of 9 (91-93 points).

Both also have an SRP of $34 but, of course, you won’t pay anywhere near that price through today’s deal…

For the next day you can get the Dashe Les Enfants Terribles 4-pack (2 bottles of the 2018 Zinfandel plus 2 bottles of the 2018 Grenache) for just $XX.95 ($XX.XX/bottle). That’s a discount of XX%, or over $XX a bottle!

Up first, let’s take a look at the 2018 Dashe Les Enfants Terribles Mendocino Cuvee Zinfandel which comes from the Signal Ridge Vineyard in the Mendocino Ridge appellation. You will receive 2 bottles in today’s 4-pack.

2018 Dashe Les Enfants Terribles Mendocino Cuvee Zinfandel

From the winery:

The grapes for this blend came from Signal Ridge Vineyard — at upwards of 3000 feet, the highest elevation vineyard in all of Mendocino, Napa, and Sonoma Counties. The elevation of the vineyard is so distinctive that it falls within a special appellation, the “Mendocino Ridge,” which is the only appellation in America that is designated on basis of elevation. The high elevation, steep slopes, and extremely rocky soil make the ideal growing conditions for making complex, balanced, compelling wines.

We modeled this wine after Grand Cru wines from the Beaujolais region of France. Its light red color, excellent aromatics, and silky smooth texture mark it as a more “Old World” style of wine; extremely drinkable and enjoyable on its own.

We make this wine using a technique called “carbonic maceration.” About 10% of the grapes are pitchforked into the tank as whole clusters. We do not crush the remaining grapes, and instead let the whole berries fill the tank. The tank is closed and blanketed with CO2 gas, and the fermentation is then conducted using the native yeasts on the grapes. This technique results in a distinctive fruity aroma, lighter color, and complex midpalate.

After fermentation, the wine is racked into a special aging barrel—a giant 900-gallon French oak foudre from Burgundy, whose large format allows us to age the wine without much oak flavor in the wine. The result is a very fruit-forward wine that has much of the character and texture of oak-aged wine, but without the typical oak flavoring.

We age the wine for five months in barrel, and then immediately bottle it to capture the fresh fruit character of the wine. The result is a beautifully balanced wine that is delicate, yet with lots of complexity and great length in the finish.

2018 Dashe Les Enfants Terribles Zinfandel Back Label

The 2018 Dashe Les Enfants Terribles Mendocino Cuvee Zinfandel opens with a fragrant, fruity aroma of ripe blackberry and raspberry plus white pepper with a hint of Beaujolais-like bubble gum from the carbonic maceration. It’s a fantastic start!

It only takes one taste to know this is not your typical Zinfandel but I love it. (You’ll want to give it a good amount of air for it be at its most delicious though.) The wine features fresh, juicy fruit flavors similar to the nose with some cranberry and pomegranate wrapped up in a lovely smooth, full and round mouthfeel. You’ll also find good acidity and balance.

It ends dry, fruity and long. This is definitely a unique Zinfandel that is indeed very Beaujolais-like as the winery intended. Also, due to the natural way it is made, our bottle did have some harmless sediment on the bottom of the cork so be careful when you open it. It was even a bit better on day 2.

Up next we have the 2018 Dashe Les Enfants Terribles Grenache from a vineyard in the Clarksburg appellation of California. You will receive 2 bottles in today’s 4-pack.

2018 Dashe Les Enfants Terribles Grenache

From the winery:

These Grenache grapes are grown on a flat, rocky, former riverbed along the San Joaquin delta near the town of Clarksburg. Although the days are quite warm, the nights are quite cool because cold air and fog from the ocean flow up the river valley at night which chills down the vines. These hot days and cold nights result in fruit with bright, vibrant aromatics and great acidity. We love the fresh, red fruit of these Grenache grapes, which produce one of the most drinkable and lovely wines we produce at Dashe Cellars. Because of the way we make this wine—fermented with the native yeasts on the grapes; aged in large, French oak barrels; unfined; and bottled with low SO2 levels—we felt this is an ideal addition to our Les Enfants Terribles (the “Wild Children”) series, wines made in an Old World style. The resulting purity of flavor, velvety texture, and lush midpalate is a break from the brash, fruit-forward style of many Californian wines.

The grapes were harvested in the middle of the night to keep the grapes very cold and maintain the fruit aromatics and acidity. Since we loved the character of the fruit, we aged the wine in one of our 900-gallon French oak casks from Burgundy (15 times the size of a “normal” French oak barrel). By using the larger oak vessel, we intentionally kept this wine away from heavy oak influences, and the short aging process enhanced the lovely fruit character of the wine.

Production: 389 cases
Oak Aging: 7 months; 900 gallon older French barrel

2018 Dashe Les Enfants Terribles Grenache Back Label

The 2018 Dashe Les Enfants Terribles Grenache opens with a very pleasing, almost Pinot Noir-like aroma of strawberry and a touch of cranberry with some earthy forest floor aromas and a little bit of spice. It’s a great start!

Taking a sip reveals a very tasty, juicy Grenache. Quite well balanced and fresh in the mouth, it features good depth with similar flavors to the nose and a smooth mouthfeel. And it gets even better as it has more air.

It ends dry, long and juicy and was even slightly better on day 2. Just like the Zin, it also has some harmless sediment at the bottom of the cork so be careful when opening. This is very tasty!

Here’s what people are saying about our Insider Deals:

I have been buying your Insider Deals for about 3 years now and we have enjoyed every one of them. They are wines that we never would have found on our own…

the wine is, in a single word, superb! as have been all other wines offered and purchased since I first learnt about you…

love them all so far…Glad we ran across you. Too bad we can not order them all.

Also your prices are pretty amazing.

Hey Jon! You do great work. I’ve bought a bunch of the Insider Deals and probably 80% of the wine I drink comes from them. Great values!

Jon, this is a wonderful wine all around. You have become our go-to person for wonderful wines and wine values. Please keep up the excellent job that you’re doing! Regards, a very satisfied customer.

I opened up our first bottle last weekend and was blown away.

Wow!! Just got my shipment. It is absolutely tremendous.

Hi Jon, Best thing I ever did is buy wine thru you…not been disappointed with any of them! Thank you SO MUCH!

Would you happen to be offering this one again anytime soon? I regret not buying more. This was exceptional!

I am seriously considering having the Insider Deals as my primary go-to. Why did I not do this sooner? Thank you

The only thing I have ever been disappointed in with an Insider Deal is that I didn’t purchase more.

I love this wine I bought from you!!!! Thanks for doing what do do!!!

This an absolutely amazing wine, Jon…You’ve outdone yourself!

Thanks Jon. We already drank all 6 of the first order so we were ecstatic to see you offering it again. My wife and I both love it.

You are a man after my own heart. I have always looked for the best and least expensive wine and you just made it easier. Cheers!

Hi Jon, well, I did something people have warned about – bought 6 bottles and should have bought 12!

Have had nothing but great bottles since I started ordering your recommendations. Thanks so much!

We’ve gotten in on three of the deals and have been VERY happy with the value. I originally was going to do a wine club thing but the insider deal appeals to me much more.

The shipping on the Insider Deals is another great part of the deal. We recently paid $27 to a winery in California to ship 6 bottles (same packaging as the insider deals)….yikes!

Just got my 6 bottles and having my first glass. WHY, WHY didn’t I buy a case??!!

I really missed the boat by only getting four bottles of this offer last month. Should have bought least at a case.

My wife and I have really enjoyed getting to know new wines (and better than we used to buy!) Thanks for what you do and providing this service!

Jon – you have to stop offering all of these amazing deals. My self discipline is fading fast!!

I recently took advantage of your offer. So glad I did, and now sorry I did not buy more (like all those quotes on your website!)

The wine is outstanding. I am so glad I bought a case.

I only drink Reverse Wine Snob wine, it actually doesn’t make sense to buy from a store. You don’t get anything interesting, unique, and full of value otherwise.

Jon, I should have bought more! Delicious!!

I am a Certified Specialist of Wine. I love your deals. You pick great wines!! Kudos to you for getting us great deals!

Wish I would have ordered more!! It was great. Looking back, I wish I didn’t open it at our annual pool party. It’s gone. **Sob**

Hi Jon, just had to let you know that I love this wine!!!! Thanks for doing what you do.

I have purchased many times over the last several months and loved the wines!

Seriously amazing deal!!! I love a bold red, and Reverse Wine Snob delivered!!! Perfect for a rainy night!!

AMAZING!! Damn, I should have bought a CASE!!

WOW. Just… wow. Absolutely delicious. If I knew it was going to be this good, I would have bought a case… or two. This was dead-center in the sweet spot of what I like. Thank you!!

I have loved all my RWS deals, can’t wait to get this one.

I know that you don’t need to have ‘customers’ email you every time they like a wine that you have suggested/rated, and I have enjoyed many of your recommendations. But this Tannat was spectacular! Wow! That was amazing!

I finally opened a bottle of this and it did not disappoint. Delicious!!!

Thanks for a great service! We’ve been loving your emails and wine deals!

This insider deal is a great wine!!! So glad I got it!!

My Insider Deal arrived just in time for my celebration tonight and it’s absolutely delicious! Cheers!

Wish I had doubled my order!

I’ve gotten quite a few of these and loved them all — keep them coming!

Wow – this wine is amazing!!! Glad I have two more bottles of it!!

Bought a case wish I had purchased 2-3 cases. Fantastic buy for the price.

This Insider Deal was the best ever. This wine is amazing!!! Strongly recommend.
