Today we're highlighting another of our favorite wines from the Lidl French Wine Fair (more about that here). We started with a rare Chateauneuf du Pape for well under $20 and this time we're turning to an often overlooked variety of white wine from a very special place, Alsace.
Gewurztraminer may be hard to pronounce (guh-VURTZ-trah-mean-er) but it's an easy variety to love, especially if you're a fan of spicy foods. The 2015 Hans Michel Gewurztraminer begins with quite an inviting aroma full of tropical fruit, peach and pear with nice touches of spice. The wine tastes rich, sweet and delicious and has a great unctuous mouthfeel and vibrant acidity. The flavors include sweet fruit similar to the nose intermixed with touches of spice, nuts and even a little minerality. It ends with a tart, long-lasting finish. This is an excellent example of Gewurztraminer at such a low price!
This wine will also find a home on our multi-page listing of The Best French Wines under $20!
