The winemakers include Dick Handal, Lucas Meeker (who you may recognize from one of our previous perfect 10, highly popular deals, the Meeker ZSM) and David Noyes who worked with the famed Peter Wellington.
The old vine Zinfandel comes from Rotta Winery established in 1908 in the Willow Creek District in Paso Robles and spends 24 months in 2-year-old French and American oak barrels. It has almost no residual sugar (less than 1 g/L). You will receive two bottles in today’s 4-pack.
The organically grown and dry farmed Petite Sirah comes from Venturi Family Vineyards in Mendocino and spends 25 months in new and neutral American and French oak barrels. It also has almost no residual sugar (less than 1 g/L). You will receive two bottles in today’s 4-pack.
The Petite Sirah received a Gold Medal and 93-Point rating from the 2024 Press Democrat North Coast Wine Challenge. We rate both wines at the high end of our 9 Taste Rating at 92-93 points.
Here’s some more info on the winery and their stellar pedigree:
An award-winning, family-run winery in the heart of Dry Creek Valley. Our fascination with wine-grape growing began in South America, where we lived in Ecuador for 38 years, and continues today with our grape growing and wine-making ventures in Sonoma County.
Our winemaking is a relatively recent venture. For over twenty years we were primarily grape growers selling our premium grapes to some of the best wineries in Sonoma and Napa counties with whom we have long-standing relationships. One of our client-wineries was Wellington Vineyards in Glen Ellen owned by the Wellington family of Sonoma. Peter Wellington, owner-winemaker, produced several award-winning, vineyard-specific Cabernet Sauvignons, including one from our Dry Creek Vineyard. Peter Wellington helped us develop and make our wines. We grew and produced boutique lots of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Sagrantino, a Red Blend, and Cabernet Sauvignon at the Wellington facility in Glen Ellen. We now produce our wines at the Meeker custom crush facility in Healdsburg and continue to receive consulting support from Peter Wellington as well as David Noyes who also worked with Wellington.
We continue to source excellent Zinfandel and Syrah grapes from small family-owned vineyards that follow our high standards in growing grapes using organic practices and supporting sustainability. These farming relationships ensure that our grapes will continue to produce award winning wines.
Of course, this type of expertise normally comes with a hefty price tag.
This 4-pack deal, which includes two bottles of the 2020 Denier-Handal Paso Robles Zinfandel plus two bottles of the 2018 Denier-Handal Venturi Family Vineyard Petite Sirah, would typically retail for $146. You won’t pay anywhere near that price through today’s Insider Deal…
For the next two days you can get this 4-pack deal (two bottles of each wine) for just $XX.95 ($XX.XX/bottle). That’s a discount of XX% saving you over $XX!

Summer 2025 Shipping Options
We have both a Summer Shipping option (with heat protection) and a Summer Hold option. Our priority over the summer is to get your wine to you safely should you choose to have it shipped! Here are the details on both options:
Summer Ship (+$8) – Includes heat protection (styrofoam), freeze packs (when necessary), an upgrade to UPS 2-day shipping to minimize transit time when your order ships, and packages will only ship Monday through Wednesday to avoid them sitting somewhere hot over a weekend.
Because we’re only shipping at the beginning of the week, summer ship orders may take a bit more time to ship after the conclusion of the offer (likely 5-12 days rather than our normal 5-10).
These orders have an additional cost of $8 built into the product price for this Heat Protection Package. It is NOT possible (nor would it be advisable!) to purchase a deal with summer shipping without also including the Heat Protection Package.
Summer Hold (No Extra Charge) – Buy your wine now and have your shipment held (at no extra charge) for delivery in October! While we take every precaution we can with our Summer Shipping protocol, we also know that many of you travel or live in very hot areas where you don’t want to risk it (or you simply detest styrofoam).
Please note this is not a “ship-at-will” program, all your summer hold orders will ship (in cardboard/no styrofoam) at a date of our choosing in mid-October once temperatures have cooled down. Please read this post for important info to determine if the Summer Hold program is right for you.
Both Summer Ship and Summer Hold orders will incur the flat $7.99 shipping charge per order, no matter how many packs you buy. If this is your first time ordering please check out the shipping section of our FAQ for more information.
For your convenience you also have the option to select a UPS Store to ship to at checkout (with no extra fees) so you don’t have to be home to sign! For Summer Hold orders whatever shipping location option you choose at checkout (ship to home or ship to UPS Store) will apply in October.

Up first, let’s take a look at the 2020 Denier-Handal Paso Robles Zinfandel. You will receive two bottles in today’s 4-pack.
From the winery:
Tasting Notes: Zinfandel from Paso Robles is known for its full-bodied flavors, with notes of black cherry, raspberry, dried herbs, and pepper. The wines tend to be high in alcohol and have a sweet, jammy character with a good balance of tannins. The finish is usually long and spicy, making it a great match for dishes like brisket and BBQ as well as Asian-influenced dishes.
The Vineyard: This vintage of Zinfandel is a departure for us from years of making wine with fruit from Dry Creek Valley. In 2020, due to the fires in Sonoma County, we were unable to harvest fruit from the vineyard we had previously bought fruit from. We were fortunate to have been introduced to the Rotta Winery and its old vines. The vineyard sits on the valley floor and boasts sandy soil, cooler mornings and nights, and warm days.

And now on to our review:
The 2020 Denier-Handal Paso Robles Zinfandel begins with a classic Zin-like aroma red and black cherry, licorice, balsamic, a little baking spice and a touch of cigar box. It’s a great start.
Tasting reveals a smooth, rich, delicious Zin. It does need some time to properly open up though so don’t be afraid to open it several hours before you want to consume it. It features similar flavors to the nose with great depth, well-integrated spice and a touch of vanilla.
It ends dry, a bit grippy and very long with lasting spicy fruit and was even better on day 2. This is lovely!

Next, let’s take a look at the 2018 Denier-Handal Venturi Family Vineyard Petite Sirah. You will receive two bottles in today’s 4-pack.
From the winery:
These grapes are organically grown and dry farmed on soils of rocky, medium clay. It is the dry farming that brings intensity to this beautiful wine.
Our 2018 Denier-Handal Petite Sirah is a full bodied, well-balanced wine that exhibits the best varietal characteristics of Petite Sirah. This is a very impressive wine. Great deep blackberry and raspberry concentration that builds on the tannins in the wine. We found the layers of flavor impressive and very typical of Petite Sirah. It’s big but not drying. The lower sugar at harvest is a good thing and really helped build the flavors of the wine. Full bodied but not heavy, floral and fruity with a long finish. This is great now and will age for years to come. This vintage boasts the deep inky color and texture of Petite Sirah with rich earthy spicy flavors.
The 2018 Petite Sirah pairs well with Middle Eastern dishes such as Kibbe and lentil wild rice with dried cherries.

And now on to our review:
The 2018 Denier-Handal Venturi Family Vineyard Petite Sirah opens with a very attractive, savory and complex aroma of blackberry and spice plus a little bit of an earthy and nutty note. I love it so far.
Taking a sip reveals the wine to be balanced, delicious and an almost too easy to drink example of Petite Sirah. Full-bodied, firm and a bit chewy and with good complexity, the wine features similar flavors to the nose. It actually paired amazingly well with our spicy butter chicken and rice.
It ends dry, grippy and very satisfying on the very long finish. It was just as good on day 2. This is a lovely, balanced example of Petite Sirah.
Cheers,
Jon
