In fact, Insider Deal All-Star Scott Harvey was even the winemaker for 7 of the first 9 vintages and the wine is now made by Rusty Folena who trained and mentored under Scott:
Among the pioneers who introduced Sangiovese to the New World, the Gullett family set out in 1985 with the singular goal of making Vino Noceto California’s premiere Sangiovese producer. They are now renowned for making “California’s Best Sangiovese.” From just three producing acres and 110 cases in their inaugural 1990 vintage, they now farm over 25 acres and produce 10,000 cases per year, including ten different Sangiovese.
The ripe, rich, smooth and juicy Vino Noceto Rosso we have on offer today is 91% Sangiovese sourced from estate vineyards as well as from another Insider Deal favorite – Brutocao Family Vineyards. There is also 5% Sagrantino, 2% Alicante Bouschet, and 2% Canaiolo Nero to round things out.
The non-vintage wine is primarily from 2022, with 23% coming from 2023. It was aged in 130-gallon, French oak puncheons. And through today’s deal you can get this fantastic daily drinker for well under $XX a bottle!

Summer Ship (+$8) – Includes heat protection (styrofoam), freeze packs (when necessary), an upgrade to UPS 2-day shipping to minimize transit time when your order ships, and packages will only ship Monday through Wednesday to avoid them sitting somewhere hot over a weekend. Because we’re only shipping at the beginning of the week, these orders may take a bit more time to ship after the conclusion of the offer (likely 5-12 days rather than our normal 5-10).
These orders have an additional cost of $8 built into the product price for this Heat Protection Package. It is NOT possible (nor would it be advisable!) to purchase a deal with summer shipping without also including the Heat Protection Package.
Summer Hold (No Extra Charge) – Buy your wine now and have your shipment held (at no extra charge) for delivery in October! While we take every precaution we can with our Summer Shipping protocol, we also know that many of you travel or live in very hot areas where you don’t want to risk it (or you simply detest styrofoam).
Please note this is not a “ship-at-will” program, all your summer hold orders will ship (in cardboard/no styrofoam) at a date of our choosing in mid-October once temperatures have cooled down. Tasting Notes: Noceto’s Rosso is a predominantly Sangiovese blend sourced from vineyards throughout the central coast and northern California. Made in a food-friendly Chianti style, this is a simple, easy-drinking go-to for an everyday red that will go with everything on your plate.
NV Rosso opens with a nose of cherry-berry, fruit roll-up, and cedar. Secondary flavors include bright cherry, cassis, leather, minerality, and balanced acid. Exceptionally food-friendly, you can pair it with anything you have on your plate – from charcuterie to Barese ragù or Korma!
Vineyards: Grapes were sourced from multiple vineyards ranging from the central coast (Brutocao) through northern California (Noceto and Sidney Davis). In addition to Sangiovese, we also selected Sagrantino, Alicante Bouschet, and Canaiolo Nero. Each lot is harvested and fermented separately prior to selective blending.
Winemaking: 2022 was a challenging year due to frost and a late-season heat wave. It really pushed winemaker Rusty Folena to take into account that every vineyard was different and that he had to adjust his winemaking to those vineyards. “That’s why there is no recipe,” says Rusty. The fruit was cold-soaked for 24 hours, then fermented in a combination of stainless steel, bins, and French oak (depending on the vineyard) for 7-10 days at 70°-85° Fahrenheit to preserve bright varietal characteristics. The wine is aged in 130-gallon, predominantly French oak puncheons to soften youthful tannins.

And now on to our review:
The Vino Noceto Rosso Sangiovese di California begins with lots of ripe berry fruit along with some nice touches of herbs and spice.
Tasting the medium to full-bodied wine reveals it to be ripe, rich, juicy and smooth with good balance. It may not have the depth of some of winery’s more expensive Sangiovese, but it sure is easy to drink which gives it a lot of mass appeal. Featuring similar flavors to the nose, this blows most other sub-$10 wines out of the water.
It ends dry, juicy and long and was similar on day 2. It’s also quite food friendly. At today’s price this makes a great option for a daily drinker!
